Virgin error codes

Can anybody tell me what 2001 error code means, and I have vision break up mainly evening on ITV 1 and Channel 4 that also goes into sound drop out. It's very hit and miss and for some reason worst on sunday evening, have changed nasty HDMI for one that cost a mortgage, it seems a bit better but maybe like sitting in a dentist's waiting room when the pain goes.

This break up also carries to recordings. Do the setting DBM have any relavence to this and what should thet be in the region of.

First off you allowed yourself to get conned for a cable. It's digital, it either works or it doesn't! There's no difference between oner costing a fiver or one at 500 quid.

Main problem of course is the actual software in the box, but you are stuck with that.

A quick google search for hdmi cable scam will be very enlightening for you, can you take that mega expensive cable back?

The evidence of my eyes says differently. In my house, there has been a tremendous increase in picture quality by replacing the free VM HDMI cable with a quality one.

I am sorry but you are fooling yourself.

It is IMPOSSIBLE for a different HDMI cable to make any difference in the picture quality. In analogue days quality cables could make a difference but now in the digital era it doesn't.
If you picture does look better then you must have adjusted something else too or your brain is telling you it is better to make you feel good about your spend.

Consumers are being charged over £50 for several meter HDMI cable simply because their HDMI compatible TVs cost them a lot already and according to major retail's researchers potentially they will spend premium on pheriperals in an effort to get the best picture out of their brand new TVs. Companies like Monster simply set and establish a perceived value for these digital cable products and unfortunately retail cables that cost them single digit at three digit price points. To add insult to injury they bring in the analog cable selling points on digital cable packaging. An HDMI cable that is gold plated has NO advantage over a silver plated one just because conduction quality is irrelevant when you are carrying "Ones and Zeros" from one point to the next.

A lot of people have invested a lot (not just money) in their opinions.

Digital signals can however degrade to the extent that bit errors, beyond the scope of error-correction can be introduced. Furthermore, jitter can make clock recovery imprecise, which can also lead to errors.

However, in these extreme cases, failures will still tend to be of the relatively catastrophic nature.

It is not possible to explain how better pictures or sound, can be attained by a cable upgrade. People can be convinced of many things though so and any amount of anecdotal evidence to the contrary must be dismissed as irrelevant. Unless, that is, I am missing something fundamental about the design of ICs and interfaces. I hope not - as that's part of my job.

Anyway, I hate to sound arrogant - but until someone successfully shows how a cable can possibly affect the clock and data recovery process in any way that would manifest itself as picture (or sound quality), the inescapable conclusion is that it's impossible.

kopykats: you should speak to the Faults dept about both problems. Out of interest, when do you get the error 2001? (It means the PVR functions aren't available)

I am not mistaken because it is a fact. It's a bit like saying that a hardback book gives a better story than a paperback.. All you have paid for is a better build quality.

Saying nothing more is the best thing you can do as there is nothing more you can say. I hope you didn't pay to much!
