Can't get HD picture on Toshiba 40XF355DB from V+ box.

Hello everyone. Like most first-time posters, I'm here because I need help and/or advice. This is the problem:

On 10 January I purchased a Toshiba 40XF355DB from Comet in Cambridge. The Comet salesperson assured me that it would work from the HDMI output from a Virgin Media V+ box. Although I have followed the instructions for the TV set and the V+ box carefully numerous times, I have not been able to make the set show HD pictures (eg from BBC HD preview, channel 108). I have tried all three HDMI ports on the TV and 720 and 1080 normal and wide, but the TV just shows a blue screen when the V+ box asks me to press OK to test. Not even a flicker. I am using the HDMI cable supplied (by post) by VM.

Is there any good reason why the 40XF355DB would not show HD pictures from the V+ box. Should I get VM to change the box?

Thanks for reading this. Bye for now...

after i've pressed OK my V+ box asks me to press the text button on the remote (bottom right). Does yours do this? If you don't do this it goes back to using the scart socket. By the way does the TV work if you use the scart socket (not HD of course)? Just a basic and simple check which is worth doing.

Most TV's will not auto-switch to HDMI when they receive a signal. When you do the test, try switching to the HDMI input that the V+ is connected to. Hopefully, you'll see the box asking to to press 'Text' to confirm you can see the image.

Thumbs up Re: Can't get HD picture on Toshiba 40XF355DB from V+ box.

Thank you both for the advice. I had in fact already read the FAQ and tried the things you both suggested, but without success. In the meantime I saw somewhere the hint of reversing the HDMI cable, and that did the trick! Hard to believe, but it's true. We now have great HD pictures. Thanks again!

Yes, I don't believe it was that that solved your problem. It must have been something else.
Why don't you try reversing the cable again and see if it still works then and let us all know? HDMI cables are not directional.

Re: Can't get HD picture on Toshiba 40XF355DB from V+ box.

I have just purchased a Sony KDL40W4000 TV and have a Virgin V+ box.On following the instructions in the V+ Manual to turn on the HDMI the output always reverted back to Scart.
On searching the net I came across this forum and after pressing the OK button I pressed text and it is now sorted.
Thanks
