Question HD question...

Hi all, had my V+ box installed today, other box in bedroom (vip package)
All channels have now downloaded, i have a HDTV in which the engineer fitted a HDMI cable from the v+ box, so when the guy had gone i had a play (like you do) so i tried to watch a HD programm to see the difference but...it said i need to have a HDTV setup to view HD content, I followed the setup at the back of the virgin user guide...

disply & audio option = HiDef HDMI

Output format = tried 720 & 1080

pressed OK, ask me if i want to test , click yes, picture flickers then goes blank for a few seconds, when it returns the settings have reverted back to 4:3 normal and COMPOSITE for some reason.

I still have the scart from v+ box to tv as engineer said i need that in to see menus, then said when you have setup HDTV/HDMI connection i can remove it.
So hopefully someone out there might have a answer cheers Ram

Angry Re: HD question...

Thanks for trying but it still reverts back to 4:3 normal and COMPOSITE, no option to save. could it be a dodgy HDMI cable?

You need to press the TEXT key during the test.

Cool Re: HD question...

Cheers guys, can view HD stuff now, just noticed a couple of things that have changed tho, need to ask to help me and others.

1, As soon as i had completed the HDTV setup as in the virgin guide, the V+ signal as changed from AV2 to AV5, which made me panic thinking i'd messed up, is that normal?

2, When i had my standard box connected i could view cable through my DVD recorder on Line 1, but now that channel is blank and cant view cable through my recorder now, is that because it used to be scart connected but now the HDMI cable dont allow it?

3, The engineer did say, once i'd got my HDTV setup sorted with the HDMI cable,i could take the scart lead out, but dont i need a scart feed from tv to v+ for anything else?

4, one more, (hope i aint borin yer) even with the HDMI connection,if i'm watchin cricket/football etc..where theres lots of green (grass), the picture becomes very unfocussed/blurry as tho it cant cope with it.
would that be my screen setting which i have set to 1080wide or is it the colour setting.

If someone with a cracking picture could just post there settings (hdtv) it could give everyone a good start to great viewing, just watched the Ants HD program very good picture indeed.

thats it for now, once again great forum, as my mum always said "if you dont ask you dont get to know

1. AV5 is your tellys way of saying something is plugged in to the HD connection.if you look where the HD lead is plugged into the back of your telly it will say 'AV5' have seen this on a couple of makes of tv.
2.correct,when set to HD the RF and scart outputs are turned off.
3.when you transfer your recordings you'll need another output.
4.sorry,but my pics have been great in HD,even the standard def look better when viewing thro the HDmi setting
