New V+ Install Tomorrow : a question

I have read a number of posts that when you get the v+ thing installed it takes up to 24 hours for it to be turned on.

Is this correct, or is my leg been yanked?

Re: New V+ Install Tomorrow : a question

It can take a while, if it isn't setup correctly, i.e. the card isn't registered with the STB, or the installer doesn't phone through the numbers correctly, or someone simply hasn't put the correct details on the database.

Most installs and it's fully working in only a few minutes. Certainly the installer should be able to demonstrate the basics to you while he is at the property which means by the time he leaves quite a few of the channels should already have populated.

Re: New V+ Install Tomorrow : a question

does it?

Hmmm.

My statement that goes without sayingis written after the enlightenment of 'rob' and your very own replies, ex post facto.

Certainly I wouldn't want to keep a vm employee in my house for up to 24 hours, that would be rude.

But if the v+ box is meant to be working with a reasonable time, say 30 minutes, I wouldn't deem it rude to ply them with biscuits and tea or coffee, to delay them from doing a vanishing act within several minutes; as they did when my original cable tv and internet access where installed.

Re: New V+ Install Tomorrow : a question

My installation went smoothly, HDMI cable, old SCART taken out, a quick how to etc and bobs my uncle basically.

Now V+ is excellent (as it's still new to me), there is a lot of good things that far out weigh the bad which I will have to say anyway.....

I had no red button jobbie, and I'm a snooker fan and that did my nut in a bit, but to be fair I called them up, they said they'll call me back in about 3-5 days as it had to go to level 2 or something, and I got a call today (I called Thursday) and I now have the red button function. So thumbs up there and no complaints.

The other is that I was used to the old samsung box, where you can flick through the channels quite quickly, but on the V+ its slow as hell and a chore to see what's on or to turn over channels. But since then I've subscribed to Digiguide and it's helped matters no end and well worth investing in, so I don't need to flick through all the channels now, and I can plan the recordings so much better to.

I hope it all goes well, it should do, as I really can't fault VM personally. V+ is great btw

No need to tell you the pluses and you'll find them out yourself.

Had mine in last Wednesday (12th) ... It only took about half an hour and it was demonstrated to me working properly ... The engineer has to ring up with the V+ card number and some information about the box ... A hit is then sent from the distant end and the system is enabled ... My old box was put in another room and was done in minutes ... There was no cabling there as the broadband already came into that room and they put in a concealed splitter box ... Unfortunately they did not have a HDMI cable but came back the following day and completed the set-up at 720p ... I have no complaints about the installation at all ... They didn't even have time for the biscuits and tea/coffee , so for the last few days I have been forced to eat them in case they went off ... Apart from the known problem of slow channel change the system is great ... The upscaled SD (720p) via the HDMI cable is amazing and almost as good as true HD ... Others will disagree with me on this , but check it out for yourself ... Enjoy your Xmas with your new play thing.
