Re: Recording Times
I think it's still at default values as we only received it last Thursday, I will check when she stops watching TV for 5 minutes and post results.
Thanks for the response and Happy New Year to all

Re: Recording Times
QUOTE=lostandconfused;34458928 i think it was referring to the mass of words without any paragraphs, but i digress...
You are probably right , as there are some people whose paragraphs are only one sentence long.
I think the problem is, your v+ is set to record for an extra say 5 minutes at the end of the program just incase it over-runs etc.
If your recording 2 programs say on BBC1 after each other, it will record the end of the first program and then use the other tuner to record the start of the next program.
If you're recording two programs say on BBC1 after each other , you are better off making a manual recording to embrace both programs ... That way , you only use one tuner ... This leaves the second tuner to be used if necessary to record a third program.
If you are recording 2 programs at the same time, when it comes to the next program there arnt any tuners left as they are both being used, so will start as soon as the first one finishes.
The only solution i see is for VM to bring out a new box with more tuners (which i see as unlikely) or you change the v+ to stop recording as soon as the program is finished, but you could lose the end of a program if it over-runs.

Re: Recording Times
I worked out what seems to cause it tonight after almost all the programmes I recorded over christmas had the first few minutes cut off or cut off early at the end. Some were on the same channel one after the other or two tuners were being used at once so I can understand why it wouldn't work in those cases but it also wasn't working for programmes which were completely isolated from any other recordings.
I set up the V+ box last week to record 2 programmes on the 26th Dec, I also added another one on the day to be recorded that evening. The programmes which were set up last week didn't add the extra padding to the recording despite there being no recording clashes. The one which I added on the same day recorded with the padding added.
I switch the box off every night so I recon this is what causing the padding not to be added. There must be some sort of bug where it doesn't add the padding to recordings which have already been set when the box is turned back on.

We have had no problems with our recordings but , at the moment , we don't switch the box off at night ... We intend , after New Year , to put the V+ on a timer as our mains sockets are awkward to get at ... They are behind the unit where the V+ box and surround sound box are housed ...
We tend to look at the Radio Times and choose our items to be recoded from there on a daily basis , so we have not yet planned our recordings more than a day in advance ... If two consecutive programs are to be recorded off the same channel , I tend to do it manually and add whatever padding I want ... That way I only use one tuner ...
We have set a couple of minutes padding at the start and ten minutes at the end and in every case it has worked perfectly ... It may well be that when you switch the box off , the padding is lost as you suggest ...
I am now considering whether or not to switch the box off overnight if it is causing the padding problem ... I am sure that eventually manufacturers will bring out products that only consume a watt or so of power on standby ... My Samsung LCD TV only uses one Watt on standby , though it doesn't obviously have the facility to record anything ...
Good luck with your future recordings.

I don't believe it is. The padding bugs still happen if you don't power off. You've just been lucky so far.
Be aware that your series links won't work if you power off every night, because only looks for new episodes once a day at 2:13am. Leave it on at least one night a week to get round this.

Thanks for the info ... We haven't tried the series links yet as we seem to work on a day-to-day basis rather than days-in-advance programming ...
If the padding bugs are still there then , and if the program is important , I assume that manual recording would have no bugs and would work perfectly ... This assumes that the program times are not delayed by previous programs running over ... It wouldn't matter if we padded the manual recording by an hour or so just to be safe ... I don't mind doing all the recordings manually if necessary , though the EPG is definitely less hassle and easier for my Wife.
Thanks again.

Re: Recording Times
Thanks for this info. We have been leaving it on one night a week for the series links to update.
Surely this bug should have been fixed by now though. The V+ box has been out almost a year (and the TV Drive even longer which I believe is basically the same.). What's taking them so long?

Re: Recording Times
Don't forget that it's not virgins fault that programs start late.
What gets me is that you turn over to watch a program several minutes before it due to start only to find that it has started.
It would be good if the V+ box had PDC (Programme Delivery Control) I had this on a VHS recorder nearly 10 years ago. (SKY+, TIVO have it)
OK I know that this may not help if you want to record a program on a different channel

I'm not blaming Virgin for programmes starting late but they say they have this feature which is meant to help account for these problems and then it doesn't work all the time.
Its easy to tell if the problem is due to a program starting even earlier than the padding or the padding not working because the programme length is extended when the padding has been added.
