V+ Surround query
Firstly, apologies if this has been covered before.
I have just installed my V+ box.
I have connected it to my AV amp via HDMI. I also have two DVD players connected to the AMP, one via HDMI, one via component / optical.
The AMP is connected to the TV via HDMI. When either DVD is selected as the source, the AMP auto detects Dolby Digital. When the V+ is selected, the Amp auto selects PCM. Any films that are supposedly surround (pro logic) are not (unless I select a pseudo surround setting on the amp).
I have tried an optical connection between the V+ and the amp, setting overide on the V+, but it still auto detects as PCM (not pro logic). The Amp is a Yamaha RX-V2700.
Any thoughts, suggestions or help appreciated.

Re: V+ Surround query
Page 42 of the manual seems to imply you can tell your receiver to use COAX/OPT for the V+ connection, even when the HDMI link is active.
If you connect your V+ via optical as well and selected this option, does it work then?
I'm wondering whether the V+ is really smart enough to send 5.1 over HDMI???

Theres no guessing. It does not support 5.1 DD. Its only supports PCM (Stereo), it will give you Pro-logic if your amp supports it, but you may have to manually select it, stereo audio can carry Pro-logic as standard.

According to the datasheet, it does support "5.1 Dolby Digital AC-3 audio", and I believe there are plenty of examples of people getting 5.1 via the optical link...
Are you just saying it only does 2-channel PCM over HDMI?

Sorry, my original post is completely wrong. The V+ does support DD, however Virgin don't pass the DD sound data from Sky, so what I meant to say was you won't get DD from the V+ box as they don't carry it.

Re: V+ Surround query
I'm wondering if it does only do 2 channel PCM over HDMI. I'm not bothered with DD5.1 from the V+ at this point, simply Pro Logic (for sports and films). My concern is that if I select PL on the AMP, is it actually taking the PCM signal and interpreting, then outputting properly, or just 'creating' a sound?

Yep. Only BBCHD and some HD movies have 5.1. Classic VM. They have box which could wipe the floor with the opposition, if they'd feed it better. Oh, and open up the eSATA port whilst they're at it. There's no reason why they can't store the media encrypted on the external HDD, and hold the key in the smart card. Oh, and what about some digital teletext services that don't take years to load. And perhaps an update that actually spins the hard disc fully down over night, saving me some money and and few thousand tons of CO2.

Re: V+ Surround query
OK. The AV amp only auto detects DD if the Optical is connected and enabled via settings - if disabled, only detects PCM. Looks like I need to set the amp manually to Pro Logic for surround broadcasts.
