I have a V+ and i have 4 or 5 time let it stay on over night but i cant sleep. I would worry about it starting a fire.

Normally I turn my box off unless I've been out on the town and forget when I come in

Re: What Do You do At Night When You Go To Bed

I generally turn off most of the chargers, set-top boxes and also my modem and router when not in use, all except for a Thompson Freeview box that takes absolutely ages to update when switched back on and my stereo that loses it's clock settings! According to the manual my SKY box consumes 20watts on standby!

I'm a standby man

I sleep with 2 completely turned on PCs in my room (although the monitors tend to go down into power saving mode)

Re: What Do You do At Night When You Go To Bed

Most of the time I don't even remember to switch the V+ to standby so it's on. However standby and on will have little effect ont he power consumption since it's only the picture and sound transmit that get cut off. Powering off defeats the object of the V+, in that to record programmes, it needs at least standby.

A mate of mine had a mobile phone charger catch fire during the night setting fire to surrounding items and that caused about £3000 worth of damage, luckily fire was put out before it caught hold otherwise it could have been a lot worse!

I had a Dell Laptop go up in flames on my knees - luckily managed to throw it outside before causing any damage. Make sure you turn anything off that isn't required to be left on all the time

Good advice, repeated here by the London Fire Brigade: http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/fire_s..._electrics.asp

Quote:
At night, turn off and unplug all electrical appliances except those that are meant to be permanently switched on (like videos and fridges).

You must have either one briliant low noise PSU or sleep very well at night.

I turn everything off not only to save on electricity but also as it is a fire risk.
