V+ with an HDMI A/V Receiver

I was thinking of getting one of these HDMI A/V receivers so that I can connect a V+ and DVD player via just HDMI cables to the amplifier and then through to the TV.

But I've read that the V+ box might not pass HDCP properly, in which case there's little point is having the HDMI port on the receiver.

Has anyone actually managed to connect the V+ just via HDMI to a receiver?

I've connected mine using HDMI & Optical leads. HDMI from V+ Box to LCD, Optical from V+ Box to AV Reciever.

Obviously you don't get HDMI Sound quality doing it this way, but seeing as Virgin only offer BBC HD I'm not bothered about that.

Fair point. I was just hoping to save a few more pennies and cut down on the snake's nest of cables...

as far as im aware if you use the optical conx you get the best quality there is and if its tx in 5.1 you get that aswell. thats how i would connect it anyway.

One of the supposed benefits of the Sony is that is takes sound from the HDMI connection. It's supposed to auto-negotiate with whatever it's connected to and tell it that it can accept 5.1. Whether the V+ is smart enough/compliant with HDMI to do this is what I'm not sure about. Perhaps it only can push 5.1 over the optical link...
