Could this be the reason- or was he just cheesed off?
I happen to talk to a guy in a virgin van yesterday. I mentioned the v+ box, just to see what he thought. I must say he did not seem a happy bunny,he did say that I should steer clear of V+ as it was "well put your own words in here." He also implied that one of the reasons for the price cut was to get rid of them & I should hang on and see what the new year brings.
Looking at the posts here & not really having any need for the V+ at the moment , I fully intend to wait, However I wonder if anyone knows if something is in the pipe line or if he was just letting of steam.

So what is "well put in your own words there" supposed to mean What exactly are your concerns over the V+ that suggests you should be steering clear at the moment. I have to say that I find mine great.

My V+ works great as well. The only problem I can see with them is that when VM add more high definition channels (eventually they will have to) the hard drive is not going to be big enough.
It does seem a bit strange though that VM are now selling them off so cheap.

It's a Christmas promotion, just like Sky are offering. "Order by the 12th and we'll install by Christmas" kind of thing. At the current discount, the V+ is a bargain.
There's no word of a successor on this forum (which are pretty well informed) so I'd be sceptical about something better coming. But i wouldn't be surprised if the V+ became the standard box for all XL customers next year.

I could have worded it better. No you don't own the box. Their again, ownership brings with it the responsability for repairing the box when it is out of guarantee.

Re: Could this be the reason- or was he just cheesed off?
I've had a V+ box since February last year and it's fantastic. I see no reason why I would want to steer clear of it.
Like everything, I know some areas and individuals have had problems, but it's fair to say I have not had any and it works exactly as described. Never crashes either.

1) If Virgin fold I have a £75 brick
2) I can not ever remember wanting to record 2 channels & watch a third
3) Total lack of H D .The only reason I might go for it
4) The reason for the post - any one heard this he seemed very sure that it was being upgraded/replaced next year

I thought the same thing and almost went for Sky +, however since then I always seem to be recording two things at once. Sky + with its limited capacity would have driven me up the wall.
I have had some problems however: Last week the before I went away for a few days the TV guide was displaying "no programme information". I figured it was just taking its time and all would be fine. When I got back there was still not tv guide and as a result some of my planned series had not recorded. I had to do a reset to get the guide back.
Now when watching Live TV in the evening the sound drops for a second or two and the picture can 'glitch' quite often to the point where it becomes annoying. My wife said it started happening after I did the reset. If it is still happening tonight I'll probably put a fault call in (and that is such a painful experience: This time I hope I'll get someone who can speak more than broken English and can actually read the response the comuter has told him to pass on to me ).
Later

£150 was a rather hefty install price, £75 is reasonable all things considered with the technology 2 program recorded and HD. If it breaks down it will be replaced. 2nd day with it, and I'm more than happy. Pic quality of non HD content is also an improvement on old box glad I got it.

I've had my V+ box just over a week and totally agree. I can live with the slow box as the picture quality is so much better on non HD channels.

Sorry but how often have you heard of Head Office sharing info with the 'person in the van'*?
If this was true, and 'person in the van'* knew about it, then someone else, 'person who answers the phone'* would normally venture onto some website, lets call it virgihellworld, and post about it.
If anyone joins this site named 'person who answers the phone'* then you can believe everything they say.
* Avoids the sexist term!

So you don't like the V+ box. That's ok, they won't suit everyone. However, mine is fine for my needs and worth almost every penny.
And if they are upgrading next year...well that's ok too. If it's a software upgrade, I'll eventually get it. If it's a new version of the box, unless it does something the old one doesn't there's no point. I'm not bothered about cosmetic looks.

XL+ package £30 installation fee for V+ box, XL TV, phone & BB £65/month and you get to keep your old STB.
