adding more tvs to a v+ box

Hi

Have read through a few comments - not very tech minded but need to clarify something - is it possible to connect additional tvs to a v+ box - we currently have an analogue cable box(previously telewest) which we run 2 tvs from. We want to run a further 3 tvs from this box but we'd like to go for a V+ box and don't know if that would still be possible - the other tvs would only be for watching channels 1-5 and freeview but virgin say we have to have a box in every room which isn't practical,
Please help!!

I don't see any reason why it should not work.

Depending on what connection is best for you, the v+ will out put via scart which can easily been run into a splitter.

or a normal rf ariel type lead. Though i'd have to confirm that the v+ box definitely outputs this. (i'm sure it will though)

What type of connection do you currently use, i assume the easiest would be to just keep your current connections for the tv's you have.

Other thing you might want to think about is whether your going to be watching high definition content on any tv's that can handle it. Then have to look into hdmi cables

Thing is, they don't support the Analogue pass through anymore and these Analogue signals will be disappearing off of a lot of the network in the relatively near future to make space for more digital channels (about time too!)

Re: adding more tvs to a v+ box

quick question,

when you say you are going to only be watching 1-5 plus freeview, are you getting the channel from a different source other than the v+ box. like a external ariel via freeview box? or are you meaning that they will be using the v+ box to watch freeview channels?

Or is the v+ going to be the main channel selction, obviously then all tv's will show the same thing ( i assume this is what your not doing)

So if the signal is coming from another source, then you can just run that to all tv's and ignore the v+ box.

if Analogue pass through is disabled on v+ box, assuming you have a external ariel you could take this source and the rf output from the V+ box into a joiner and push all signals to the rest of the tv's

Assuming the V+ box and external ariel don't operate on the same frequencies.

---------- Post added at 23:09 ---------- Previous post was at 23:02 ----------

Checked another post and you can change the rf output if required

"To change the RF channel on a V+ box, reset the box while holding the up and down arrows, hold them for about 15 seconds, this will then open the engineers menu and the RF channel can be changed from there"

Re: adding more tvs to a v+ box

Hi

thanks for your help with this - I'm beginning to think we're on a lost cause - the reason we can't use our outside ariel to feed a signal in is because the reception is totally rubbish - that's why we got cable in the first place. We have spoken to a few people today and were considering getting sky instead but it seems the only way we can run the additional tvs off this would be to use a signal through an outside ariel. I'm really not trying to do anything flash!
I'm guessing the only thing to do would be to improve our existing ariel and do it that way.
Oh how I'm beginning to dislike technology!!
Thanks again

You could look at getting a digital sender, but whatever one TV sees all the others see

Re: adding more tvs to a v+ box

By what you say I take it you want to take the cable signal and split the analogue signal between all your TV's for general terestrial viewing and also to be able to watch the V+ on your main TV.

There are ways in which to do this and going by what you have said I take it that cabling etc. must already be in place, however as previsouly posted the analogue signal could be turned off so this may only provide a short term solution. To provide this short term solution you need to use a splitter before the signal enters the V+ box - from here one feed can be used for V+ with the remaining feeds being used for your other TV's.

It may also be worth noting that when I upgraded to V+ I was given the oportunity of retaining my older box for £5 per month. I cannot say if this would be feasable or even possible for you as you are upgrading from analogue.

The longer term solution would be any or a combination of the following depending on your requirements / wants:

1) Provide a wireless feed possibly with multiple receivers
2) Get the arial sorted and use the terestrial signal
3) Use Freeview boxes
4) Use FreeSat
5) Get more cable boxes

If you can provide clearer details of what you need (both requiries / wanted), initial costs, ongoing costs then I may be able to help further.

Re: adding more tvs to a v+ box

Hi

You got it exactly, all I want is for my teenagers to be able to have a decent picture on new tvs that we have just bought. The tvs have built in freeview and I don't really want to pay out for boxes in their bedroom, our bedroom and the living room as well, also they don't really have the room for them either.

I'm beginning to think that we might be better solving our ariel problem and feeding through from there.

Really appreciate all your help.
