Have they fixed this dropped ******* yet?
On all PVR's, when you press 'Record', it records the whole programme from the 'start' (assuming it's in the buffer)
With V+ however, even though the beginning has been recorded (you can rewind to it) it won't bloody well record it -crappola

I doubt that but I've no intention of going looking for the many examples which disprove your point.
You disprove it yourself anyway because you cannot use the word ALL as you say that the V+ can't. You would have to use 'all other except the V+' and I doubt that is true either.

Re: Have they fixed this dropped ******* yet?
To be fair to Jethro, I believe the SA8300 in the states actually does this. Let's take a common example in my life:
Phone rings. I pause V+. Speak to friend on phone. Friend persuades me to come out. I then just want to press record and have the whole programme recorded. But I can't. I could leave it in pause mode but that's a bit messy. When I next sit down to watch TV I might not have the time or inclination to watch that program straight away. Someone else may want to use the system in the meantime. And when I come back to it I'll probably want to watch the program from scratch, not some undetermined point part way through.
This is the one feature I miss from Sky+. All it requires is the ability to shunt data from the 'live' buffer to the recordings.

Re: Have they fixed this dropped ******* yet?
My intention was not to be unfair to Jethro but simply to suggest that not all PVRs have the same bells and whistles, e.g. V+ has three tuners allowing to record two and watch a third live program, Sky+ only has two tuners so does not have that function.
If you want the function which Jethro wants, which I agree is a good one, then get a PVR that's capable not one which isn't.

I suppose you can play semantics if you obviously have nothing better to do - but for those actually interested
Alllllllllllllllllllllllll PVR's (excluding only V+) can/will store the whole of a programme if they have already recorded it - i'd like to say 'for obvious reasons' but i fear i may need to explain it to 'some' - however - if anyone can find a PVR (other than V+) that fails this simple task - i will buy them a car, a house and a boat - how about that?

it is not a 'function' or 'feature' and neither a 'bell' nor a 'whistle' - the V+ cannot retain/store a programme that it has already recorded and is still in the buffer - this is no less than a dropped *******
i was merely wondering whether they had fixed it

I did wonder this sometime ago, but realised it wasnt possible.
Its a shame, because thats a function I thought would be easy to implement, but once I thought about it, I realised it probably isnt that easy.
Thing is, if the Buffer was to know how long the actual program on the EPG hs been on, then it would be possible.
Unfortunatly, once its recorded, I dont think the info is stored what show and how long its been on.
Maybe if you record an episode your half way through, a window could pop up saying "You are recording a program which has already started. Would you also like to keep any previous content stored in the Buffer? (Then an option of how many minutes from the Buffer to keep.)"
Its an idea, I guess... cant see it happening with this company though...
ntl: might have done it.
They might have got it completely wrong, but I think they gave us the best stuff...

So JethroUK owes you a car, house and boat. haha, that's funny.
Regarding the original post - it would be a useful function to add in an update, but I'd rather they tackled other issues first - sound drops, bad BBCHD at times, etc etc

It is NOT A BUG so it can't be fixed.
It is a feature or function that Virgin Media have chosen not to implement in their version of the software for the box.
I see others have already shown you that not all PVRs have this function.
PS If you are not happy with the V+ then give it back and get one that suits you better.
PPS I am not going to promise to give away luxury goods if someone can find an HD-capable PVR with three tuners (other than the V+). It's all about the features that each individual wants on their PVR. If you want to record a program after the start and its in the buffer, don't go for the V+.

Re: Have they fixed this dropped ******* yet?
Ive said this before...
It would be great if the code could be opened some how for some one to play around with and see what functions they could add.
Course, thats like modding, in a nutshell...

Of course it's possible - it has already recorded it - there in nothing about the machine that is more possible than saving that which it has already recorded

yadda yadda - i'm happy enough for it to grace my living room but that doesn't make it flawless
you need to accept that the V+ box is just that - 'a box' (not a first born child) - it is not a case of love it or loose it - it has many problems you can ignore but you should acknowledge
it's different but not better than Sky+HD - it's just cheaper - hence a bit crap in some departments

quit with the 3 tuners already - there's more to life & more to a PVR - it can only record on two anywayz (as per dozens of PVR's incl Sky+) so get over it

no - we should bitch about it until they fix it
quite frankly if everyone had adopted my attitude it would've been sorted within 3 months - but there's obviously too many people that pretend it's not a problem or more likely have never had any other PVR so 'don't miss what they never had' and hence why they aint bothered to fix it
.
