Which to install first, HD TV or V+
I'm just in the process of working out which HD TV to buy and then of course I want to have V+ so that I can actually watch some HD TV. However I am really extremely non technical and not at all sure whether I should get the new TV first and then order the V+ or the other way round, or perhaps it makes no difference? At the moment I am sure my present TV, set top box and DVD recorder are all connected wrong as I have ended up with 3 scart leads connected and I'm sure you really only need 2, but for some reason I lose either the sound or the picture if I take one of them out, like I said before I am not very good with all this kind of thing

Doesn't really matter, but I'd say do your research and get your HD TV first
When the installer comes round with the V+ box he/she will sort out all the connections on your new TV
(ask for the HDMI lead when ordering your V+ box...I didn't and missed out)

You do realise the amount of HD content on V+ is next to nothing...
I would really recommend that you look at what your getting from V+ in terms of HD before you buy.
Skys HD package is much more extensive by comparison although still lacking IMO.

Yes I had noticed there isn't a great deal to watch. I don't understand why they are so slow? I have toyed with going over to Sky but it would be quite an upheaval as for some reason we don't have a BT connection to our house and they are quite expensive to install.
However I like the idea of the V+ service just for the fact that you can record more than one programme at a time. Right now if we want to record one channel and watch another we have to watch through the roof top aeriel and the picture is terrible

The box upscales the SD picture when connecting via HDMI and i think the quality is nearly the same as HD. Cant really tell the difference

If you cant tell the difference i'd change your box, the difference between SD and HD is massive.
I get vertigo and have felt myself falling towards the telly when i've been watching stuff on HD when you get high shots (like the BBC HD preview stuff over Canary wharf, Earth etc)

I think what nicke261192 is refering to is the degree of noticeable difference between a HDMI upscaled picture and 1080i

Re: Which to install first, HD TV or V+
I got tv few days before the V+ and it was a good move as they set it up correctly for me. It also meant i could see a real difference instantly.
The earlier poster is correct that even non hd program quaility is better with V+ connected.
I wouldnt dream of going to sky on the basis of hd. Virgin will catch up soon enough with channel 4 and itv hd channels and hoepfully even settle differences with sky.

Re: Which to install first, HD TV or V+
i went for the hdtv first just because i fancied 1 , then as i had 1 i thought i might as well go for the v+ box .the hd content is pathetic but i suppose it will get better but its worth having just to record in dvd quality & pause live tv.

Re: Which to install first, HD TV or V+
These channels maybe coming though...
- ITV HD (2008, Hopefully)
- Channel 4 HD (This month, 10th, Hopefully)
- MTV HD (Don't know)
- Discovery HD (Don't Know)
- History Channel HD (Don't Know Either)
And if Sky give us their channels, we may get:
- Sky Sports HD 1/2
- Sky Movies HD
- Sky Arts HD
- Sky One HD
I hope these channels do come!

Reason: Adding more channels to list.

Re: Which to install first, HD TV or V+
Also remember that whilst there may be a lack of linear HD channels on V+, your HD TV will be good for Blu-ray and HD DVD with the appropriate players.
I've got a PS3 and I have a very small collection of Blu-ray films, the picture quality is simply incredible.
Things will improve in terms of HD on Virgin, whether it will have the same volume of content as Sky (I said volume not quality) is yet to be seen.
