If that was the case there would be NO mention of the linear channel. Virgin are hardly likely to announce they have the option of taking the HD channel if they had no plans to do so, it would simply be omitted from the press release.

teh reason for no hd channels before now is there has onyl been bbc hd which has been free
yes sky and otehr liek discovery have them but they charge for the channels to be carried by virgin and even if the price is fair they only have abotu 150000 v+ user so its not worthwhile paying it because the subs would to much once v+ hits abotu 1 million peopel they will probally get them then although sky hd channels will be a different story

At the moment there isn't a reciever capable of decoding the encrypted HD channels that Sky send out for Virgin to use as a source.

Signal direct from Sky? Wrong.
Virgin don't take anything directly from Sky anymore, they take everything from satellite. As I said there isn't a reciever capable of decoding Skys HD content yet.

I think you are confussing what i am saying yes from satellites but the signal comes from sky themselfs or do yout hink the signal gets there from teh middle of no where? and regardless fo decytpion or encyption or whatever virgin can not get teh chanensl until they signa contract which they wont do until there more v+ users
you missed the point of my original post i wasnt talking abotu where the signal comes from how they decypter it or whatever i am talking about being allowed to have the channels

Are you a VM customer if so why you seem to hate everything they do, say or try to do,or maybe your real name is murdoch come on your secret is out
And what is the point of vm rushing to get hd when only 4% of the population has proper hd capability, sky has already admited that it is losing money hand over fist with it's hd service that they paid millions to secure and havn't had the take up in the service, and you think vm should do the same not good business practice really

Sky have something like 200,000 HD subscribers! They make a loss on the HD STB's in order to make them attractive to customers but I don't think you can say they are losing money hand over fist.
Sky ploughed a fortune into Sky+ and its payed off, the Sky + box functionality is what everyone wants from their service provider.
Sky make money, they are profitable. Virgin................

Mmmm probably is where I work, and it's not Sky or Virgin before you ask
However !!! thats not the issue. What is the issue is that Virgin are missing the plot !! I dont care about included calls and line rental on a land line I use about once a week. Everyone has mobiles today... sack the phone stuff and invest in more HD content. Oh buy the way SKY dont make the programmes they transmit in HD !!!! DOH ! In the US the HD content is growing by the week !! a token channel here and there is not going to cut it. If Virgin do watch out they'll lose even the ppl like me who don't agree with what Sky did, but I'm getting Peed off waiting for Virgin to get up to speed with content. Stargate Atlantis , Battle Star Galactica, etc etc the list goes on !!
As for VOD.. give me a break, go buy the dvd set....I dont want to watch a complete series from last year that everyone you speak to has seen, what a waste of disc arrays. Or PAY extra for a hd content movie, when I already pay for the bloody HD V+ BOX (BLINGED UP PVR)
I cant fault the broadband, but c'mon guys get a grip, the TV stuff in not good enough for the amoount we pay !!

I am a customer because my phone is fine and generally my broadband is fine. I have 2 tv drives because i think the tv drive is better than sky's hd box. However what i want from VM is a proper service. I want them to use the Facilities that they have to give me a world beating product, Unfortunately for what ever reason they don't seem to want to be the best.
I like VM i just don't like to see them be second to Sky. I applauded them when they stood up to Sky, I still think they did the right thing. I want them to continue doing the right thing and getting us HD channels. Then and only then will i see them as taking a market lead.
My name is Sirius or can you not read

They don't exist. Nobody yet makes a DVB S2 H264 capable reciever with Videoguard embedded decryption. Tandbergs Rx1290 can't do it.
There is a way of doing it, but it needs a reciever and two decoders.

yes that i understand that sky make's money and lots of it, but that is through everything else it does, but what i was saying sky have admited that they needed 600,000+ subsribers to sky+ to break even on the service costs
