Set V+ to 720 or 1080i ?

Hi I have a Sony 40" LCD (KDL40D3000).

It is capable of 720 or 1080i.

I will be connecting the V+ to the TV via HDMI cable.

What will give me the better picture - setting my V+ box to output 720 or 1080i ?

Thanks,

Paul.

to the forum. I'm guessing setting it to 1080 will give you the best picture.

i'd go for 720 seeing as the res of that tv is 1366 x 768, no point in downscaling the 1080 picture

I prefer 720p, better temporal resolution (better for moving pictures).

I've noticed (especially on the football) that 720p seems to deal with the fast pace better but the centre circle seems a little jaggered. Does anyone else get this?

On 1080i its a lot clearer but not as smooth with fast moving images.

The menu text looks a bit ropey in 1080 - the text has occasional faint horizontal black lines in it.

If there doesn't appear to be any difference in picture quality on your set up between the two it might be worth checking what the menu text looks like in both.

My setup definatly looks better on 1080i output, the menus aren't as good granted but that doesn't matter when watching HD programming
