Extending Recordings
This service is very hit and miss. Despite having, in theory, 5 minutes added to the start of recordings and 10 to the end, I frequently have recordings which (for an hour's programme) last sixty minutes exactly, leaving the last two or three minutes unrecorded. Very frustrating and making me more inclined than over to go back to Sky!

It sounds like your experiencing overlapping of recordings
If you have 2 programmes recording on your V+ at the same time and a 3rd programme slightly overlaps those programmes it will automatically drop the padding to accomodate all 3 recordings
e.g.
bbc1 20.00-21.00 (with padding 19.55-21.10)
bbc2 20.00-21.00 (with padding 19.55-21.10)
Five 21.00-22.00 (with padding 20.55-22.10)
So if the padding doesn't get dropped one of the recordings will fail so the V+ cleverly strips the padding to accomodate all recordings.
If your only recording 1 or 2 programmes and the 3rd programme doesn't overlap them at all you'll find the V+ box will record them with all with padding.

Re: Extending Recordings
You can be extending your recordings to recording a better providing's of service from your Digital Video Recordings...

Many thanks for this - really helpful. This is exactly what's happening, so I'll do a mix of manual recording/V+ recording when I'm recording consecutive programmes.

Re: Extending Recordings
Sorry to pinch this thread but does any one know why the padding works on series being recorded but not on individual programs?

Re: Extending Recordings
It should work on all scheduled recordings.

Re: Extending Recordings
My box no-longer drops the padding. Now it does this:
bbc1 8-9
bbc1 9-10
bbc2 8-10
the second recording will fail, even though its on the same channel and padding is not dropped.
When I first got it, it used to drop padding and if I was watching OnDemand or the box was in standby, the 3rd tuner would be used, I got a 3rd red light. Now I don't, all since the update to the software, and now I get a lot of failed recordings even though they DON'T overlap.
The box is faster = because they cut out some code? well now it's not such a smart box!
Is there somewhere we can report problems using the internet? Or make suggestions?

When you originally set up the series links for the 1st week it will drop the padding to accomodate all 3 recordings, but for some reason when a new day is added to the EPG it doesn't strip the padding causing 1 of the recordings to fail.
The only way to stop this bug affecting your recordings at the moment is to cancel all 3 series links and re-enter them, you need to cancel and re-enter the series links is on the actual day of the recording.
For example if its 3 programmes on every week on monday, cancel and re-enter the 3 series links on monday 3rd Sep and the box will pick up the programmes from the EPG for Mon 3rd & Mon 10th Sep, it will then record all 3 programmes for both those mondays and you'll have to repeat the process on mon 17th Sep otherwise you'll have a failed recording.

Re: Extending Recordings
Thanks JG3870, I wondered what happened. This is quite a serious bug for me as most of my programs occur at similar times of the day.

It is quite an annoying bug especially if you've got a lot of series links set up at a similiar time, I always check my planned recordings on a very regular basis and if I see the clash symbol (!) next to a planned recording I know its going to fail and cancel and re-enter the series links.

Re: Extending Recordings
I've had issues recording on ITV1 recently. I set it to record "Bouncers", a 30 minute program with 1 minute padding either side, I end up with a 23 minute recording for some reason and nothing else is set to record until after. The next program I set to record is also on ITV1 just after and I end up with the last minute of Bouncers at the beginning and then 23 minutes of "Crime Fighters", so I always miss 5 minutes or so of each program.
Doesn't happen on any other channel.
