recording V+ archive to dvd while connected via hdmi

Hi, sorry if this has been answered elsewhere in this forum ive looked breifly an cant seem to find a clear answer. The "high defination on virgin" sticky states

"A.3) Connections
As a bit of a final 'gotcha', V+'s analogue outputs (SCART & RF) are disabled when you are using HDMI or component"

If this is the case is it no longer possible to copy archived programs from the V+ hdd to a dvd recorder ?

Might be a bit of a noob but i need to ask anyway

I have a hd lcd tv currently connected to the V+ via scart 1 my dvd recorder is connected to the v+ via scart 2 but i want to use a hdmi lead to connect the v+ to the tv. Will i still be able to copy recorded programs to my dvd via scart 2 on the v+ or are both scart outputs disabled completely and if so then how do you copy programs recorded on the V+ hdd to a dvd recorder?

hope thats understandable, lol i dont want to lose the ability to copy to dvd.

thanks in advance for any help/advice anyone can supply.

Although use of the HDMI cable disables the scart connection between your TV and the V+ it continues to archive as normal. Just follow the directions after pressing the V+ button on your remote.

Hi Jo, I take it there is still no way to archive HD content, just as a large MPEG file - I guess the content is stored on the V+ as MPEG2 or 4.

Re: recording V+ archive to dvd while connected via hdmi

I don't know the technicalities of the type of storage but I have archived HD programmes. I did notice that, in the same way as the recording on the V+ takes up more space than in real time so, the amount of space used on a DVD is more than it would be with a SD recording.

Hope you understood that. It made sense to me but then I know what I was trying to say.

Jo.

Just noticed this is my 1,000 post. Wow. I was so hesitant when I made my first post as it was my first ever to a forum.

Re: recording V+ archive to dvd while connected via hdmi

I can't tune my V+ box into my dvd recorder the dvd recorder has picked up terestrial through the ariel socket but can't find VM through the scart cable, i have checked all the cables but still no joy.
Could it be the fact that I am running my V+ box through HDMI?

Re: recording V+ archive to dvd while connected via hdmi

I should not think that your HDMI cable is at the bottom of your problem. A simple error could be that you have the scart in the top socket on your V+ rather than the bottom one.

If that isn't the case then, as I am not the most technical of members on the forum...far from it, I would go back to basics and connect my TV to DVD recorder by scart. Try it out to make sure it works and then use another scart cable to do the same. I would then be satisfied that my dvd recorder was working with my TV and more importantly that both scart cables were all right.

I would then connect my TV, V+ and recorder with those scart cables and try tuning in my recorder to the V+ using a really distinctive channel such as 747 which is not broadcast over my terrestrial ariel.

With a touch of luck tuning would be successful and I would then just revert to the HDMI connection.

If you do decide to give my way a go don't forget you have to change the settings on the V+ etc and don't disconnect/connect your cables whilst your TV, V+ and recorder are plugged in.

Jo.

One thing to note here, is that when usin HDMI, the scart connections do not become active until you use the copy to VCR/DVD option. I did this a test on a couple of programs, while I set up the DVD recorder. Just to make sure that I had the right scart connetion in the back

On V+ box, the scart should come from the VCR socket
