Does V+ upscale or Not

Hello, Can anybody tell me if the Virgin V+ box upscales normal definition channels, if not, can anybody tell me what the picture quality is like on a 40" LCD.

My boys currently have a 17" LCD tv in there rooms but the picture quality is poor through the Cable when compared to my 32" CRT Tv.

Thanks in advance.

I did a search but the old link found on Google appears not to work anymore. Only signed up on here today.

Cheers
Lee

Re: Does V+ upscale or Not

Yup. It does.

My TV used to show up the Blocks in the sky of different colours of blue, but now they smooth into each other, which is great.

Re: Does V+ upscale or Not

The V+ STB will upscale the standard definition channels to 720p or 1080i via the HDMI or component out puts. Please note that the analog out puts are disabled when using either HDMI or component. I would recommend the HDMI option as this will allow you to view high definition movies through VOD. The upscaled picture is much better than using a scart lead from tests I have done myself.

Re: Does V+ upscale or Not

Why hdmi WIDE ? That makes no difference to the picture being upscaled - all it does is fill the screen, even for 4:3 transmissions

Re: Does V+ upscale or Not

I recently got a 32-inch Bravia, and the upscaling is good, but not as good as my PS3 does with DVDs.

Also, for the reason stated by rakkor, I have the V+ set to 720 and not 720 wide - otherwise 4:3 transmissions (which there are still far too many of, IMO) are horribly stretched. Standard 720 only seems to restrict the V+ menus/overlays to 4:3, and doesn't condense 16:9 pictures at all.
