Possible to get an RF output from V+ box?

I've been an NTL customer for some time. Firstly I had analogue cable, and as that was mainly based around using RF cables between devices I had a splitter in use so that I could essentially send the five "terrestrial" channels plus what ever channel the cable box was tuned to up to another TV upstairs. The quality was not fantastic, but was acceptable.

When I changed to the digital box, the engineer put a little box on the back of the Pace box that meant that there was also an RF output, so I could continue to use this.

I'm now thinking of moving to V+, so am half expecting to lose this ability.

What is the best suggestion for me still being able to watch cable upstairs? Should I just retain the old Pace box as well as the V+ and get them to split the cable signal?

to the forum.

I would just keep the old box and put it in the other room.

Re: Possible to get an RF output from V+ box?

I'm not sure I fully understood whether you were asking whether there is an RF output of the current cable channel or whether you can get all the analogue terrestrial channels as well, but the V+ box does have an RF output.

As long as you do not use the HD output (which disables all other outputs, likely because of copy protection and such) you can use the RF output of the box along with the SCART or composite outputs. Therefore, you can use the system in the same way you do now and watch cable upstairs.

However, you will not be able to get channels 1,2,3,4 and 5 at the same time from the box itself (it only outputs the current viewed cable channel) but you will be able to get the cable channel you are watching from the RF out.

So yes, you can output the current cable channel from the RF output. What you wont get is the analogue terrestrial channels as well (which will be going off eventually anyway) unless you hook up an aerial or other source of them (there is an antenna in port on the V+ box, which then forwards the channels out the RF out, for distribution around the house)

Hope this helps

Well, that would be a possibility, but I guess I'd have to pay an extra rental I guess...

What I've actually got is quite neat in the bedroom because there are no other boxes apart from the TV. It just plugs into the wall RF socket. So the 'old' digibox would be down under the main TV still.

Re: Possible to get an RF output from V+ box?

I am thinking of having the V+ and have a similar RF system running to other rooms. I contacted Virgin who said they are now producing V+ boxes without the RF output. If that is the case is there any way you can convert the signal from the V+ scart to be used in a RF Socket.

I don't know where they got from. All V+ boxes have RF output.

Bear in mind the RF is disabled if you use the HDMI or component outputs.

Thanks for that - I asked Virgin Technical (if there is such a place) specifically about the RF output. I said i had a TV without a Scart (not True) and wanted to know if the V+ would connect OK. Said that new boxes do not have the RF output.

The rf on the V+ only puts out what the V+ box is showning .It does not give you 1 to5 unless you have a aerial pluged in
