Rugby World Cup in HD?

I have heard that the Rugby World Cup will be broadcast in HD for the first time this year.

However, as ITV have the rights to show it will V+ customers be able to watch it in HD?

If ITV have the rights then V+ users will equally well be unable to watch it as SkyHD customers unless.......

...ITV start up their HD channel again like for the football World Cup.

I'd say an additional fee for any "ITV HD" channel would be very unlikely, given the fact that the only other HD channel available is BBC HD, and ITV's HD channel would simply be a continuation of their trial.

V+ customers seeing the RWC in full HD rather depends on whether ITV were generous enough to buy the HD rights as well as the SD rights and that's another matter altogether. Knowing them, they probably didn't, and judging by the silence from ITV on future HD development, we're unlikely to see any HD from ITV in the immediate future.

As well as that, Virgin couldn't get away with charging for a pair of "free" HD channels with limited content - they're hardly in the same league as the Sky branded HD channels. Only once VM had the Sky HD and other HD channels as well could they justify an additional bolt on HD subscription.
