V+ features and charges

At the moment I have a Samsung STB and a DVD/HDD recorder. I would like to have the ability to watch one channel and record another, so I am looking into getting a V+ set-top box. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to answer the questions below - thanks in advance for any help.

1) How many outputs does the V+ box have ?
2) How do I copy recordings ? Only option seems to be to play them and record them on my existing recorder.
3) Can I watch a TV channel at the same time as I am copying a recording ?
4) Do my monthly charges differ according to whether or not I keep my old STB ? I note that the installation is cheaper if I keep the old box.

wrt Q4, I have seen what VM charges for the V+ service, and I have also seen the announcement that the rates are about to change.

Re: V+ features and charges

It has a scart output to connect up to a VCR/DVD/HDD recorder, RF output (if you've got a high definition tv you can connect it via component or HDMI)

You can copy recordings 2 ways using the VCR Scart on the V+ box

1. Using the 'Copy to VCR/DVD' which is in the menu this is where you can select recorded programmes on your V+ box to transfer over to a DVD/VCR Recorder.

The beauty of copying this way means you can still watch any channel and even record 2 programmes to the V+ box while its copying the programme you want to DVD/VCR

2. The second way is play a recorded programme from the V+ box or if you want to record the channel your currently watching either in Live TV or Delay TV just hit record on your VCR/DVD recorder.

This way is handy if you start watching something and you decide you want to record it, for example if your watching a music channel and your favourite video comes on and you want to record it just rewind Live TV to the start of the video and hit record on your DVD/VCR.

I believe the charges are changing soon for the V+ box but currently if you keep your existing STB and have it moved to another room it will cost £5 a month for that box (free installation) and depending on which TV package you have the cost of the V+ box is and extra £15 per month if your on TV size M & L but £10 a month if your on Size XL.
If you decide not to keep your existing box there is a £75 installation fee and the V+ charges are the same as stated above.
As i say the V+ charges are going to change soon but there hasn't been an official announcement from Virgin Media regarding the changes as yet.

Re: V+ features and charges

Thanks very much for such a detailed reply, it's much appreciated. I love the idea of rewinding a programme and then recording it from the start ...

I'm going to wait for VM's announcement and then get myself a box.
