Simply amazing. I know this is using fiber optic connections, however surely that shouldn't matter. A similar level of service should be available with V+.

Re: What the V+ software should be like...

The data capacity that fibre will transmit/rcv is far greater than copper coax and the transmission is the weakest link in the HFC network. It would be great to see this from VM in the future but I think it's a long... long... long... long... way off!

I didn't see anything there which needed high bandwidth, all the content could be downloaded in advance and cached. What it would require is a more powerful STB and an investment in the software.

You might need powerful for flashy effects and transparencies and the aesthetics side, but a lot of what was shown that would be useful there is pure basic functionality which shouldn't require that much powerful processing to be required, I wouldn't have thought.

Some nice design and features there however. The powerful searching facilities, colour coding, menu structure, graphics and such were quite nice.

Personally, however, I prefer customisability, which is why I like having my own PVR. I can make the interface as powerful and aesthetic as I like - shame we'll never be able to do this with Virgin - In the US, because of Cable Card, there's hardware competition, so there's lots of choice over what hardware and interface you want, or you can even set up your own. In the UK, we can't do that as both Sky and Virgin monpolise the hardware and restrict user choice

Less competition means I would imagine entails less effort and time put into developing their hardware to make it better, wheras in the US, the cable companies have to compete feature, functionality and presentation wise if they want customers to use their hardware over other hardware.
