Earth to V+....Earth to V+....Come in V+....

Not exactly panic stricken, but p'd me off no end.

In normal operation my new V+ box is kinda slow to respond to the remote, compared to the Samsung it replaced. Like up to 2 seconds to switch channels. Okay, I can live with that.

But sometimes it just freezes solid from the remote, and goes AWOL for maybe 30 seconds or more. Thinking I haven't hit the right button on the remote I click again, and again, and ..., then the V+ will come out from behind the moon and entertain me with its memory capability - demonstrating that it remembered the key presses it wouldn't respond to faithfully. Invariably that means I'm playing a bit part in Lost In Space with Zachary Smith giving me a V sign and Robbie the Robot waving his arms about shouting "Danger Will Robinson, Danger!".

Anyhow there isn't anything I can do and it is generally just an inconvenience. But last night I was watching a recorded film. Got to the addies and switched into fast forward - 6x speed. Got to the end of the addies and clicked the Whoa! button to bring it back to normal operation. Darn thing had gone behind the moon again. I then adopted my Mr Frantic impression to try and deal with the situation.

By the time it returned from playing with itself I must have been nearly at the next set of addies, so a couple of minutes were then spent rewinding to the beginning of that section. Meanwhile whilst it was stuck in fast forward I got to see the next bit of the film in 6x mode that I hadn't been able to watch. Now I would have been mega p'd off if this had been a whodunnit and I was treated to a preview of what was coming next.

I guess from comments placed by others on this forum that this is perfectly normal for V+. However I am somewhat less than impressed with this behaviour. If it wants to take a nap I would much prefer that it suffered terminal blindness from the remote during that phase, rather than faithfully remember all the damn keystrokes.

This behaviour isn't infrequent either - it seems to occur all too frequently. If it were once a day I'd say fine, but it seems it wants to do this quite often.

I know the slow response changing channels is due to the Hard Drive buffering the channel you're changing to before it shows it to you. I've also experienced the 'lag' in the V+ acting on button presses, basically you have to 'press and wait' to see what the damn thing does before pressing any more buttons, otherwise you get the chained button presses being faithfully reproduced when you don't want them.

V+, I think I'll give mine a V- for now.

Re: Earth to V+....Earth to V+....Come in V+....

The problem is that as I'm new to this V+ thing I haven't quite got used to its behaviour, so when it doesn't respond I tend to go on a button pressing expedition before I remember what's happening.

As I say, not usually a big problem but I was clearly one button press away from ending the fast forward over the addies when it decided to take a nap, which was most annoying. If that button had worked it wouldn't have been a problem at all - I would have resumed watching the main program not knowing that the V+ had gone on an expedition.

I got my V+ a couple of months ago and all I can say is that you do get used to the way the remote operates eventually.

I can vividly remember a couple of times when it played catch-up. Not really being sure of what was happening I desperately kept punching in different instructions only to prolong the manic channel changes of the V+ catching up.

Re: Earth to V+....Earth to V+....Come in V+....

V+ keeps hiding behind this "dumping the buffer" excuse for slow channel changing, but my son has a Relook 400s which also has a buffer/twin tuners/pause-rewindTV etc etc, and his channel change is instant.

Also why do they give us an interactive service that does not work?, I have to use my Toshiba Red Button system whever I want to find out the latest scores.

Maybe one day...........

Gordon.

To overcome this irritating problem I often search my channels using the left right up down arrows until i see a program i want to watch then click OK to select.
You then dont have to wait for V+ to catch up with you.

Just the way I've got used to doing it as well. It's the quickest way to set a prog to record as well.
