Question Audio switch during 'Copy to VHS/DVD'

I recorded a program for someone else to watch yesterday, and copied it to my DVD recorder earlier today, in order to put it on disc for them.

While performing this operation, the 'viewing' tuner was set to Channel 5.

I just had a quick spin-through to see that the copy was okay, and at around 52 minutes into the show, the audio switches from the soundtrack of the recorded programme, to what was on Channel 5 at the time - Trisha Goddard!

I've just checked the recording on the V+ box and the audio is fine throughout, so I need to copy it again, which is a real pain.

Anyone else ever experienced this? Is it a known issue?

Re: Audio switch during 'Copy to VHS/DVD'

I have. I don't know why, so now when recording I pop back and forth. I had a couple of theories as to why, but when tested sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

What DVD recorder do you have? I have a Panasonic HDD/Video/DVD. One of the things I've now tried is switching the AV channel on the TV ONLY with the actual TV remote rather than with the Panasonic remote. Since I've done that I've not had the sound switches. I don't know if it's related or not.

Fingers crossed I've now had several copies done without it happening, but I still check before deleting. It's a pain to re-record it, but I'd rather do that than lose it altogether. From my own experience I've had the sound switch out in the first 10 minutes and stay switched out. I've not had it happen any later (though I still always check to the end of the copy just in case)

Re: Audio switch during 'Copy to VHS/DVD'

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

I have a SONY RDR-HX725 recorder. I've copied a number of things to it from the V+ since it was installed on 3rd April, but this is the first time I've experienced the audio switch.

It's odd, because (as you know) the V+ is connected to the recorder through its own SCART lead, so I would assume that whatever goes out on that connection is all that can be recorded. Where it gets the 'live TV' audio from is beyond me!

Hi, this has also happened to me a few weeks ago, messed up over 9 hrs of programs! I got a LiteOn HD-A740GX DVD recorder with 160GB HDD PVR, I took every single lead out of both the V+ and the PVR, then re-insterted them again and touch wood, since then it hasnt happened again, so might be something worth a try

scp2007 is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Audio switch during 'Copy to VHS/DVD'

Yes I have had this issue, it seems to happen at the same point of the recording. I am using a Panasonic DVD recorder which has freeview built in.

Can any one advise which AV connection I should use on the recorder.

On mine I plug the scart from the V+ into the "Decoder" scart socket, but yours might be something different

Re: Audio switch during 'Copy to VHS/DVD'

On mine, I have one SCART from the V+ output to the TV, and another from the VCR output on the V+ to the Line 3 input on the recorder.

I re-copied the programme yesterday, without removing any cables etc., and it copied over just fine. Seems to be an intermittent problem, but I've no idea what caused/causes it.

The first time it did it to me it wasn't just the live audio it took, basically it took the audio from whatever I was watching - prerecorded or live. Like you say, I'm not sure why since it should only be able to access what it's copying.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one it's happening to and not just my brand of recorder (which means it's not a recorder problem), but hope it will stop. I now tend to only copy a couple of things at a time just in case it does then I haven't wasted several hours. Though like I said I tend to watch it like a hawk for the first 15 minutes or so just to make sure it takes ok. Then pop in and out while recording to make sure it's still ok.
