V+ 'resting'

I had V+ installed on Tuesday, and last night/this morning I had a small V+ logo appear on my screen saying "resting... press OK".

So I pressed OK, and it then said "waking up" for a few seconds, before disappearing.

I've just done a quick search, and can't find any mention of this in these forums - is this something new, or has it always happened? What causes it?

My first thought was that maybe it was spinning down the hard drive, but then why would it need to announce that? It's also going to be a bit of a pain if you have the same channel on for a while, and it keeps appearing.

Re: V+ 'resting'

Your first thought is entirely correct. If the box isn't being used, overnight it goes into Resting mode to reduce wear on the HDD. Obviously, with the hard disk spun down the live buffer isn't being recorded to.

The box pops up so that you can press OK to start recording to the live buffer again. It also automatically comes out of Resting mode if you press any other key.

Resting mode does not affect planned recordings.

You don't, the box goes into rest mode itself, you can only place it on standby.

Re: V+ 'resting'

It saves the hard disk, meaning your box doesn't need to be replaced so often (which would mean losing all your recordings!)
