LCD tv
Hi can some one give advice. I have just changed the tv from a widescreen to a widescreen LCD. (Philips). I have as before connected through the scart . Am I right in thinking that the HDMI that I connect will only work when I go onto one of the test channels? I know compared to old tube sets the LCD picture will not be so defined in “normal” mode-not HD. But I do find that the picture is quit poor. Is this to be expected, could it be a problem with my V+ box? DVD play looks fine.

Re: LCD tv
I was under the impression that if you use HDMI, upscaling of standard services by the V+ box can take place to give you an enhanced picture. If you connect the HDMI lead the scart output would be disabled.

Re: LCD tv
As far as I know the HDMI connection is the main one for ALL channels and works for SD as well as the HD channels. I think that you have to set HDMI up in the settings on your V+ box and that when you do it you have to be very quick in pressing the "text" button to confirm. Also, from memory there is also a setting for making HDMI auto switch the TV, same as the pin switching on scart leads.
I'm not getting my new telly until 14/04/07 so I haven't come to this stage yet so I will be interested in knowing how you get on.
ps. I think that when HDMI is set as default the scart is then disabled so you have to have it connected to start with to see the menu system to set up HDMI but afterwards it is redundant.
Hopefully, one of the many people who have set their sets up with HDMI will update us on the correct procedures.

Re: LCD tv
A HDMI connection will replace your scart, you will receive HD programmes where available and all your other programmes in Standard Definition. I have found the Standard Definition to be a much better picture with the HDMI cable as opposed to Scart.

Re: LCD tv
Right. I don't know your TV, but first work out how to make it use HDMI as its source. If you’re lucky you will have a DVI button on your remote. Then on the V+ go to the Audio/Image in Settings where you will need to OK option to connect via HDMI.
After you choose the HDMI option you will need to choose the HIdef option and also choose either 720 or 1080, then press OK and the screen will read ‘testing your TV’. Press OK again.
Your screen will blank out at this point as it has no scart connection. You now need to switch your TV over to the correct AV input. If you have a DVI button on you TV remote now is the time to press it. Your TV screen should now show an option to press text to confirm. You should now have a good picture.
Hope this makes sense,
Jo

Re: LCD tv
I did almost the same as above. I went to set-up and ran through to the point where it said press OK. I then unplugged the scart and plugged in the HDMI and turned the TV to correct input device and then pressed OK.
As soon as i could see cable on the TV, i pressed TEXT.

Re: LCD tv
I think the main problem is when there's no DVI button on the remote. Mine was a pig to set up. No DVI button and setting up with DVI cable and not being sure where to plug the audio. For a technically challenge person this has sure been a steep learning curve.

Re: LCD tv
My remote control for the TV has a source button. You press the source button to go through the tuner - scart1 - scart1 rgb - scart2 - scart2 rgb - dvi - pc settings.

Re: LCD tv
Hi 12noon,
My source designator is just part of a general on screen menu. It's pretty slow to get around in and every time I tried to tune TV to DVI the V+ box got tied of waiting for a response! After a zillion (well maybe 10 ) tries I got fast enough to catch the 'Text' screen.
Since then I've learnt more about the V+. I refuse to be beaten by a box.
