V+ availability

Hi

I have a four week wait for the V+ box. What's the general picture re the shortage?
Are they improving the boxes or is it just shortage of supply? Have the problems with the boxes being sorted out does anyone know?

Thanks for any news

Anglo

Re: V+ availability

Thanks for reply, should have added that I had a new install but they did not have a V+ box at the time, which is where the 4 weeks come in.

Yep demand has been massive and the install guys are working flat out in all franchises. We have started self install broadband modems for existing customers to free up installers. They are worth the wait.

So you mean I can upgrade the recording capacity to hundreds of hours like my Tivo?
I can install a wireless NIC to d/l stuff to my pc like my Tivo?
I can run a web server on it like my Tivo?
I can run an ftp server on it like my Tivo?
I can get it to send me a daily email with it's status like my Tivo?
Cos if not it ain't worth cr*p.

Re: V+ availability

They just can't keep up with demand. Have just had an engineer round for an ongoing problem, and he's said he doesn't even have a spare to swap at the moment (though we didn't need it for my current issue), and that they're waiting for them to arrive any day now in our area, but there's just such a huge demand for them they can't keep up.

IMO they are definitely worth the wait. Even with the problem I've currently got (a few channels not receiving properly at certain times of the day) I wouldn't give it up - I'll just find a work around (like freeview for those channels). It just provides way too many options for me to go back to a regular box.

I think its a reference to the lack of VM tuners in the Tivo, and the big analogue switch off.

Or to put it your way...

Can it record two different DTV channels while I watch a third like my V+ box?
Cos if not it ain't worth cr*p come the analogue switch off.

ive had mine since 24th march, had a few problems with all on demand & virgin central, in that they didnt work, had an update sent to box the other week all is fine now.picture quality is excellent much better than my old sky pace box, i watch tv on a 32inch sanyo widescreen crt, so i can only imagine how much better the picture on an hd tv would be. im saveing up for one now, so if i was you go for it.
