Recording from V+ to a DVD recorder

I have a Scentific Atlanta V+ box and a LG DVD recorder, and I am desperately trying to get Hibs glorious CIS Cup Final victory from the V+ box onto DVD's. If I haven't got it done soon, my mates are going to lynch me.

Anyhow, when I try to record via the SCART output on the V+ box the picture flickers intermittently and renders the picture pretty much unwatchable. Does anyone know if there is some sort of content protection action going on, or is there some sort of channel configuration issue that I need to sort out?

As a Plan B, I've tried using the V+ archiving feature using the VCR SCART port, but that seems to output the TV signal rather than the programme I want to record.

Does anyone else have these problems, or am I instead a bit of a freak?

The VCR/DVD SCART is used to output a recording using the "V+ Extras - Copy To VCR/DVD" menu selections.
When not copying a recording, the VCR/DVD output is either disabled or shows a downgraded version of the currently selected channel.

Using the TV SCART should give a decent quality signal for recording.
If the original recording is OK, I would suspect one of the interconnections (i.e. V+ TV SCART socket, SCART lead and DVD input SCART socket) to be faulty.

This sounds like macrovision protection - ie copy protection. Virgin can (at the content owner's discretion) add Macrovision to a video signal to prevent copying. This is why you can't record most VOD stuff, for example.

You could look at "solutions" - though I can't speak about their legality. A potential solution might be found in the following thread at DigitalSpy (at the bottom of the first post)

Can you record to the hard disk of a dvd recorder if HDMI is being used? I cant seem to.

Hi,
I am a newbie to the forum - and I am having some problems with recording V+ programs to a DVD recorder (Akai) is there some sort of optimum set-up? Currently I have "tv out" scart to TV and VCR scart to the dvd recorder. I can record what I am watching - but unable to use "copy to DVD" in V+extras. Result is too distorted to be watchable.
i am going to change cable and see if that makes a difference - but wondered if anyone had any ideas.

Certain programme content is protected by Macrovision to prevent you recording it (premium content, films, etc). Is that what you are seeing, or does this problem affect everything?
