HDMI to DVi
Playing with my new V+ box and seeing if I can get HD to work.
My TV, although it has stickers everywhere saying "HD Ready", doesn't have an HDMI input...so I have done as the installer advised and got an HDMI to DVi lead.
I can get the picture to work using this, but the sound doesn't work. The box has a setting for audio override on HD, this defaults to off, but the sound is silent on either setting.
Anyone any idea what's wrong? Have I missed something obvious?

Re: HDMI to DVi
DVI dosent carry sound, its picture only.
You need to run a couple of phono leads to your amp from your source or to an Input port on the back of your telly.
HDMI bizarrely is effectively DVi with sound from what i understand.

Re: HDMI to DVi
You need a separate audio feed. DVI connectors don't carry audio I believe....

Re: HDMI to DVi
Hmm I'm still struggling with this.
There's a pair of what appear to be audio outputs on the back of the v+ box, coloured red and white and labelled L and R.
I have leads that will connect these to matching input sockets on the TV but this makes no difference.
In the box settings under HDMI audio override it says you have to use the "optical out" port on the box....which is one of those weird sockets that looks like the ones you get on cameras, like a small version of a USB. I don't have anything that will connect to. Nor a lead for that matter.
Am I stuffed for HD? It's not the end of the world if I am.

Re: HDMI to DVi
According to spiderplant in this thread, both audio outputs should be active when HDMI is enabled...

Re: HDMI to DVi
It should work fine now (mine does) - I think in your earlier experiments you may have changed the settings (you should not choose optical out) - try setting the box back to default settings

Look near your DVI input - there will likely be a single phono jack in that area. If there is, then that's the audio input you need to use for your DVI. It's like that on mine and with many others on similar threads. In that case you'll need a lead with 2 coloured ones at one end and a single on the other.
