RF with HDMI

r.e. V+ box, I've read (on here) that that rf is inactive when hdmi is selected, but does it still work as a passthrough for analogue chanels (I presently use my Samsung box as a loopthrough to send analogue to upstairs tv) V+ being installed friday.

Re: RF with HDMI

No, afraid not there is no pass thru on the V+. So probably best to get the samsung moved upstairs on install if your not already.

Re: RF with HDMI

Think there is a slight misunderstanding here. The V+ box does have pass through but it doesn't pass through the analogue TV which is on the VM cable, it passes through whatever signal you feed into the "RF in" socket (which would typically be from some other source like a standard roof aerial). I very much doubt that the V+ box would deliberately squash the passed through signals just because HDMI mode is in use. What would be the point? (But I agree it won't output an RF analogue version of the HD channel being watched).

But what's the point of 'only' passing out what is being passed in?

might as forget the box altogether and run the r/f straight to wherever

The point of using the box is to get the signal pasing through (from roof aerial in my case) amplified before the longish run upstairs.

Honeymonster- you answered what I was after, thanks.

Re: RF with HDMI

so..... if not using HDMI it will pass through whatever is being seen on the main telly?
and the next question is... will a video sender be any use if when set to HDMI the scart out from the V+ box is auto. disabled or can you pick up a suitable signal from the telly scart? ....think I have a headache coming on!

If you have the V+HD-to-TV link set to HDMI, then all other analogue outputs are disabled. You cannot use a video sender to distribute what you are currently watching on the HDMI TV.

Nope - That aint happening - i dont need to investigate to know that they haven't put an r/f in/out just as a 'aerial booster' - they'd tell you to buy one from Argos if that's 'all' it did - the R/F is there for other (nessessary) reasons

Re: RF with HDMI

I don't actually mean as a 'booster' as such. the lead is going into a booster upstairs before going to the tv, usually rf in/outs as on vcrs etc. give a weak boost to the output- enough to compensate for the length of cable i'm using, if it doesn't do this I will just use a Y connector.
