Is V+ worth getting yet?
Over the past few weeks I have seen so many negative comments about the V+ box that I am wondering if it is worth spending £75 for the installation and then an extra £10 per month to get it?
Could those of you who already have the V+ service let me know your thoughts. I am not looking for the HD content yet.
Would it be worth waiting for a while for the service to be established and the bugs fixed.
Paul

Re: Is V+ worth getting yet?
Most of the bugs seem to have been sorted now, apart from the slow remote, which rumour has a fix is out next week.
I don't have HD yet either, but the PVR function is great. All new systems have a few bugs, so hopefully should be sorted soon.
If you have a stb already it may be worth keeping that for £5 a month, which wavies the £75 install fee. You can cancel the 2nd stb after 12 months, so it works out £15 cheaper!
I've been waiting for it for ages, as I never want to go back to sky! I am mot unhappy that I took it, despite the few bugs. Wouldn't be without it now!

Re: Is V+ worth getting yet?
If you keep your existing STB for £5/month, the V+ installation is free. [Edit: beaten by videodj!]
£60 spread over one year, to give you a normal box in addition to the V+ box; or £75 one-off installation, & only one box (V+).
I'd get one if I had cable. I've tried Sky+ before, & would love to have something like that. Everyone I know with a PVR/DVR says it revolutionises the way you watch TV.

Even without the VOD I think its great.
The PVR makes family viewing much easier.

Re: Is V+ worth getting yet?
Another comment to say the V+ is good. It definately has its issues - Slow Remote. Basically most of the time its fine, then you press a button and have to wait up to a minute before the button press has taken affect. On the whole a very good box. I have changed from Sky+ to V+ so I can connect my HD TV. BBC HD - Excellent Quality picture. Other Channels to appear sometime in March I Believe.
Hope this in some way helps some people still deciding.

Re: Is V+ worth getting yet?
For the PVR functions alone (2 recording while watching 3rd) it's worth it! I've had less issues than others, but even with those issues, I'd still go for it.

i think you ought to take these moans into context - like if you bought a top of the range beemer and it had fag ends in the ashtray - you'd be outraged (of course) & you'd prolly fire a few choice words at customer services - but you wouldn't swap it for the world

Re: Is V+ worth getting yet?
Absolutely!!
Within 48 hours the way we watch tv has completely changed.
We have had the frustration of 5 years of 100+ channels and only been able to watch one at a time whilst all our other favourite programs go missed.
Lets face it - recording with normal cable is such a pain who can be bothered - its easier to take the gamble that you will find at least 1 thing to watch when you sit down to relax.
Despite the glitches, the V+ box really does free your tv
Cable has been seriously lacking behind Sky+ for years, now it has (IMO)surpassed it in one leap.
The costs are so much lower than Sky that Sky must surely respond and drop the price of their 160 gb HD box. In addition to the cost of the Sky HD box, PLUS still having to pay for HD content, lets not forget that after 366 days if it goes duff, YOU have to buy another one.
Without doubt - get your V+ ordered!

Re: Is V+ worth getting yet?
A big yes for me, simply for the ability to record two channels while watching another, and the fact that you can pause live TV.
It really does change how you watch TV.

Re: Is V+ worth getting yet?
A qualified yes from me. Installed today, first black box gave up showing a picture when HDMI cables attached. Box swapped to a silver TV Drive branded one and that worked...but no subscribed channels yet!! CS say national fault but I can't see any details here so wonder how truthful that is. Remote slow, hate the guide coming up all the time but love the replay and recording.

Too right.
Before V+ (and before NTL became Virgin), I had to spend a good 15 - 25 minutes every Friday setting up recordings for the weekend on both my Pioneer HD/DVR and my Pace box with the 3-day EPG.
Not any more. A few quick seconds to set up a series link and its job done. That's at least 15 minutes of my life back (good thing too - I've got loads of stuff to watch on the V+).
Oh - BTW, I just watched an episode of B5 from VOD while recording both Bones and Hotel Babylon. Try doing that with a standard box.
I've only had 1 failed recording since just before Xmas, and my only real moan of late has been VOD not working now and again (its fine tonight).
Worth every bloody penny, IMO.

Re: Is V+ worth getting yet?
Thanks for that folks. I have ordered my V+ installation. They are coming on 27 March. Really looking forward to it.
