Re: V+ Picture freezing

Hi
I've just had the somebody out to look at the picture freezing, the picture has stopped freezing in live tv(said it was a signal issue)but now the picture is still freezing in playback mode,it also gets very pixellated with multi coloured blocks across the screen and the sound goes funny.Do you think if i were to reformat the hard disk this would solve it, is it another call to faults.

Thanks 54xhg.

If the recordings were made before your cable signal levels were corrected, then they will be recordings of bad material, and will continue to play back badly. The important issue is whether recordings you make now and in the future play back properly. Reformatting the hard disk will make no difference.

Re: V+ Picture freezing

Hi,
Just had another visit today, signal levels are ok for all three tuners,he said it was most likely to be a hard disk problem he told me to give it another couple of days to see how it goes, everything was ok when he was here but as soon as he left,i made another recording and when i played it back it was still faulty. So it looks like i will be getting the box swapped.

Thanks 54xhg.

Re: V+ Picture freezing

I'm having a similar problem, but only on channel 5 recordings - the CSI's and Prison Break. I get the blocky coloured boxes off and on and jumpy sound.

Like I said just this one channel (though I did have it on Sky Movies 1 last night as well for a few minutes through the oscars).

So is this the same issue that's hopefully going to be fixed? I find it odd it's just the one channel.

Thanks

Re: V+ Picture freezing

Hi,
The only channels it seems to be recording faulty are BBC1,ITV,Does anybody think this maybe a software issue,as i do not really want to swap the box if that one will be the same.

Thanks 54xhg.

Re: V+ Picture freezing

Just looked up this thread again.

Mine is still going on and I've discovered since I first wrote that it's not just Ch 5 (now that I've started watching/recording other channels). It's ITV 4, More 4, More 4+1, and Channel 5. It's really frustrating. Have had engineers round several times. They say those channels come packaged together at the same frequency which is a high one. I live right at the box, and my signal strength is quite high, so we've had the attenuators (or whatever the little db box thingys are that they add to cut the signal on the back of the box). They've swapped the box, then we tried the db thingys - they've been out 3 times already. They've changed some of the bits in the wall. Our cable from the street is brand new about 8 months ago, so it's not that, and we've tried the box both upstairs and down - and it still happens on the V+ but not the samsung (both places) so that rules out them changing the outdoor cable to the place the box normally resides (which they were going to do). They last visited on Saturday and left me a variety of the little db thingies (sorry I don't know the technical term) of varying numbers and I've tried every possible combination from none to max and it's no better (max actually makes all channels go bad, so that's obviously way too much LOL).

I've had 4 different techs/installers out looking at it. The one person who's been out 3 times only lives about 5 minutes away from me and has a V+ box and doesn't have the problem. He knew he was coming back so he recorded his own channels and scanned them just to be sure, and it didn't happen (on the same night it did for me), and he asked around and no one in this area (meaning no one who services this area) knows anything about it being a known problem.

So I guess my questions are

1) although it's been said on here that it is, is it REALLY a known problem? Is there somewhere that it's properly documented that I can show the tech guys since they really seem to know nothing of it?

2) if it is a known problem is this something that can be fixed at some point or will I constantly have to watch those 4 channels and record them on the Samsung

3) is there anything else I can do or the techs can do - they seem out of options aside from digging up the garden again, which seems silly since the cable was replaced less than a year ago

4) I'm not a big fan of compensation stories (notice in the whole Sky 1 thing even though I watched the programmes I thought it was silly to ask for compensation for losing the channel), but would I be out of line if I'm not receiving 4 of my most watched channels to ask for a small deduction each month since I'm not receiving channels provided that i should be

5) It's obviously not happening to everyone and not always happening on the same channels for everyone that it's happening to (from the threads I'm reading) so would it be worth trying another box swap.

Thanks in advance.
