Can this really be legal??
Hi!
I was just looking at the price for the NTL TVDrive / V+ box, and I think paying £75 for 1 is a total rip-off!!
The situation is I am interested in the above TVD / V+ Box to replac my current silver Samsung box in my room, my mother also has a silver Samsung STB downstairs, where she sleeps and there are no other people living in another room so we wouldnt need my old box anymore as Id have the new box in my room, and my mother would keep her existing STB, and for this they will TRY to charge me £75??
Would that not mean then that being as I have paid £75 for the TVD / V+ that i would personally own the new stb and they couldnt charge me any other for it?
Also, WHEN we leave NTL / VirginMedia, would I not be due a refund of that £75 paid for it?
Thanks in advance for the replies

Re: Can this really be legal??
The £75 is for installation - but as you will still have 2 boxes (your tv drive and your mothers) you wouldn't pay it.
You don't buy ntl boxes - you RENT them so no it wouldn't be yours.

Don't forget about the additional monthly fee, although i'm not sure how much.
As Jefferson T says,
Quote:

TVDrive is a product from ntl Telewest which provides Personal Video Recording (PVR) and High Definition (HD) functionality to customers who subscribe to the service. ntl Telewest have taken a different approach to rival Sky's HD service, by implementing a rental scheme for the TVDrive Set Top Box. The customer does not pay an upfront cost for the box, and as such does not own the device. ntl Telewest provide technical support for their STB free of charge if a problem occurs for the life of your contract.

Re: Can this really be legal??
Jefferson T: Ah thanks for sorting that out for me, didnt think that would be right! Also, is what SnoopZ says correct about an addtional fee as I think we pay £10-£15 extra per month for the second STB.

Re: Can this really be legal??
There's an additional monthly fee for TVDrive/V+ just like there is for Sky+.

How much does TVDrive cost?
There is no up-front equipment fee for TVDrive. The monthly subscription is £10 per month if you subscribe to Telewest's Supreme TV package or £15 per month is you subscribe to Starter or Essential.

I'm assuming the cost will be the same seeing their now one company.

Re: Can this really be legal??
You'll find the revised prices here: http://www.whycable.co.uk/pricechang...Price_List.pdf
although it doesn't mention the £75 fee.
If you change an existing STB to V+ - then there is a £75 installation fee.
If you add an additional STB and have the V+ box - the £75 is not chargeable.
If you have an existing STB, and change one STB to V+, keeping the additional box, there's no £75 fee.
The additional STB fee is £5 if you have a V+ box
That's my understanding - someone will correct me if wrong.

Re: Can this really be legal??
V+ Box = new Virgin Media name for the TVDrive
V Box = new Virgin Media name for a standard STB.

Re: Can this really be legal??
Check this thread - http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...=free+tv+drive - I think if you have family pack and 2 STB's now, you should be able to get a TV Drive free !!!
It's a no brainer !!!
