New Virgin firmware code downloaded in Coventry
Looks very nice. VOD is still missing content and is still a bit hit and miss, but hey, the new code looks nice.

Pics online of the software for standard boxes (TV Drive software is the same but has extra menus/options for recording/playback and 8 day EPG):

Channel changing speed is the same IMO.

Re: New Virgin firmware code downloaded in Coventry
Gah, the speed of the 'Record by Category' feature hasn't improved . Shame really cos that would be really useful.
I shouldn't be surprised really - this code's main job is to 're-brand' and it goes a bloody good job of that. I'm glad to see that all of my settings, series links, recordings etc are still intact after the code drop.

Re: New Virgin firmware code downloaded in Coventry
Considering the new code is supposed to be 'rebrand only', there's also a lot of tweaks in the parts of the software you don't see, particularly for the TVDrive/V+HD boxes.
For example, the disk handling routine has been massively improved in the Virgin EPG compared to the ntl/Telewest branded EPGs. This should significantly reduce the number of recordings which fail with error 2056.

Sounds good.
Any chance of Virgin doing release notes for future code drops?

It does work. Its just missing content.
Speaking of content, some HD VOD content is showing up now for the Beeb. About 5 pages worth now.
Finally, I can watch Pride.

Funny - cos up until now, all my recordings have been OK. I get the new software and I get a 2056 error when attempting to watch the latest episode of Prison Break (even after a reset).
Other recordings are OK.

Re: New Virgin firmware code downloaded in Coventry
If it was recorded before the changeover, it's possible the old handling routine didn't close the file properly so it's been deleted from the disk but not removed from the recordings database (a known bug which is hopefullly fixed) - or alternatively the file was lost in converting the database from the old style to the new one.
If the recording started after the new software was downloaded, it might be that the tuner couldn't lock on to the signal at the start of the recording. Keep an eye on it and if you get more of these errors or see freezing/blanking pictures, call Faults!

Well, Prison Break was recorded on Monday night.
But Stargate Sg-1 and BSG (both recorded last night) are OK.

No real speed improvement here regarding channel changes.
