LCD lip Sync error/delay

Hi

I am new to hdtv having recently purchased an HD Ready lcd tv over christmas and had the TV Drive box installed last week.
One thing that I have noticed is that there is a definite lip sync delay (hear audio slightly before image on screen), which is more pronounced on certain channels. Thinking it may have been a fault with the TV I did some internet research on this issue and now understand that this is certainly a widespread problem and can be caused in part by the broadcaster and/or carrier but is a 'feature' of LCD TVs due to the increased processing it takes to create the image relative to sound. And is more likely to get worse with HD due to the increase in image processing. I also know that some people are more susceptable to noticing than others.
Has anybody else had this problem and how have they dealt with it? I've read that the Sky HD box has a function whereby you can delay the audio to sync with the image. Is this something that the TV Drive can incorporate in future? Any advice appreciated.

All in all though I am most impressed with the TV Drive so far, unless it manages to mess up the series record of BSG that is set .

Re: LCD lip Sync error/delay

Are there any settings on the TV itself that can compensate i.e. delay the sound? OK that works only if you are using the TV speakers, not a separate amplifier and surround sound system.

hi there!
I am afraid the LCD is more likely your problem than the TV Drive
I work for a company that sells & rents these and plasmas
and honestly I cannot live with either because of this and the motion defects when they pan the camera
you are right though.. some people are a lot more aware of this "feature"
than others.. just wait till you try a cheap DLP projector
cheers

There are always delays to the video steam associated with scaling, which do not affect the audio stream. Professional quality video scalers include an adjustable delay-line for the audio, so that the two outputs are back in sync. Delay-lines are rarely seen in domestic quality kit.

With the TVdrive and plasma or LCD screens, there are at least two scaling operations going on: once in the TVdrive to upscale for the HDMI output, and again in the TV itself to re-scale to the native pixel resolution. The combined delays of these two scaling operations might be apparent to the alert viewer. Perhaps you should try your TV set on sources other than the TVdrive to see if you notice the effect in the TV on its own.

It has been previously reported that sometimes the TVdrive exhibits severe lip-sync problems, and that these were reported as cured simply by changing channel and back again. I can't vouch for either of those reports.

Re: LCD lip Sync error/delay

To be honest, I have not had this problem on my TVdrive, but it was fairly common on my Samsung STB, cured simply by switching, then switching back channels.

I had this problem with a Hyundai Q321 which had to go back for a refund. I now have a LG 32LC2DB which is perfect. Also make sure that you DON'T have any digital noise reduction set to ON on your TV as this exagerates the problem.

On my new Toshiba 20WLT56B I get lip synch problems when the TV is first turned on but it seems to improve after a few minutes. Something warming up?
