Question 720 v 720wide

Hi all

Didn't get a manual with my TVDrive, so just a query on the 720 / 720wide HD option.

As far as I can tell 720wide forces all content to widescreen, whereas 720 will only revert to widescreen for widescreen transmissions....is this correct?

I prefer watching things in their original aspect ratio, although I also preferred the on screen menus in widescreen. Unfortunately I can't have both at the same time!

I was also recording a program earlier on while watching the cricket hightlights on BBC2. There was very noticeable frame dropping on the live tv transmission....I expect a reboot would cure, but I thought this would only happen if I tried to record two programs at once, watch a third and also back up stuff to DVD at the same time?

Re: 720 v 720wide

To view content in its original aspect ratio on a 16x9 screen, select "720" or "1080", and not "720 wide" or "1080 wide".

Re: 720 v 720wide

The 720wide option will show everything in Widescreen, stretching 4:3 content such as UKTVGold to 16:9. The guide also shows in its native format as 4:3.

If you select 720 it will show everything how its supposed to be seen. If you are watching Eastenders on BBC1 you will get a 16:9 image, with a 4:3 miniguide. If you switch to Only Fools and Horses on UKTV Gold you will have black bars on each side of your picture.

If you want to watch content the way its supposed to be seen - 720. I like seeing my screen filled (sad I know) so I select 720wide.

I have never experienced this dropping frame issue. I have never archived to DVD though.
