Virgin Media is currently undertaking a programme to replace the entire TV broadcast infrastructure. The original three headends and networks (Langley, Bromley and Knowsley) were built by three separate companies to different standards, and at over 10 years old have reached the end of their life. The new infrastructure is known as NGTV (Next Generation TV), and uses a single network, with the main headend in Langley and a backup in Knowsley. The benefits include capacity for more channels, especially HD.
One consequence of the switch to NGTV is that all regions will get the same national channel lineup (at last!)
Ex-Telewest headends get these channels:
BBC One England on channel 861
BBC One Scotland on channel 862
BBC One Northern Ireland on channel 863
BBC One Wales on channel 864
BBC Two England on channel 865
Magic 105.4 FM on channel 928
BBC Radio Scotland on channel 930
BBC Radio Wales on channel 931
BBC Radio Ulster on channel 932
BBC Radio nan GÃ*idheal on channel 934
BBC Radio Cymru on channel 936
Kiss 100 London on channel 963
ex-NTL headends get these channels:
BBC Radio 4 LW on channel 911
BBC News Multiscreen
In addition all NGTV-enabled headends get these new channels
E4 HD on channel 145
Syfy HD on channel 165
Discovery HD on channel 214
Eurosport HD on channel 522
Cartoonito on channel 706
BBC London 94.9 on channel 937
All customers have now been switched to NGTV.
