need to re-register?

Hey guys a friend of mine recently ordered ntl broadband and a new pc,the ntl arrived before the pc so he set it up on an old one.Now the new one arrives tommorrow and I was wondering wether it's gonna be a pain in the arse to set up(as the other one was) or if it's just a case of plugging the ethernet in and entering your password? Will it automatically change the mac address or will we have to go through the whole set up process again?thanks.Sorry if these questions seem a little stupid but we don't wanna take any chances after the problems we had last time.

Re: need to re-register?

You will have to reboot the cable modem, but it should just work when plugged into the new PC via ethernet.

Re: need to re-register?

Is your friend using a Stand-Alone Cable Modem (a little silver box with about half a dozen lights on the front, labelled "ntl:home broadband internet") or the Set-Top Box (which will be labelled Pace or Samsung) for the broadband access?

Re: need to re-register?

If he's using Ethernet, the new PC will have to be registered with the system. Start with the PC turned off. Plug the Ethernet cable into the new PC, reset the STB by unplugging it from the power for 30secs, then plug it back in and wait for two solid green lights on the front. Then turn the PC on, and when it's booted, open Internet Explorer and type start.ntl into the Address bar, then press Enter. Your friend will need his original PID and password from when he originally registered - if he's lost these, he can obtain them from Customer Services or Technical Support. After the new PC is added to the system, reboot the PC and the STB, and he should be all go!

Any trouble, Technical Support are on 0845 650 0125!
