Ntl's new on-line TV guide

'ashg' (Ashley Grossman?) is advertising the launch of ntl:home's on-line tv programme guide over on nthw.com. I had a look at it last night.

I would have thought if you are going to provide a service that others are already providing, you need to make your offering better in some way in order to attract people to use you instead of the competition.

But the new ntl guide - www.ntlhome.com/epg - seems very rudimentary. It allows you to select your TV pack in order to filter out channels you don't subscribe to, which sounds like a good idea ... until you realise that the list displays every channel in your pack, even the annoying auction channels you never watch. AND it displays them alphabetically, and lists every BBC regional variation. There appears to be no way to customize the information, by setting favourites, or changing the order things are displayed.

I use www.channel5.com because it's essentially the My Digiguide service except you don't have to pay for it . Based on what I've seen so far, I see no reason to change.

Thanks for the heads-up. I wasn't aware of that. This is how the ntl: online EPG should be (in fact, IMO this is how the on-screen EPG should be)

I use Digiguide, less than a tenner a year, you have ALL channels, search, reminder and more...

Hi guys,
The best one that I have seen is the radio times one at http://www.radiotimes.co.uk which does the stuff that NTL should have got right. All you have to use is an e-mail address (I used some free one) and it will recall your settings, with diary and all the stuff that digiguide probably has.

For a free alternative give this a whirl.

I think I'll stick with TV and Satellite Week, only 90p!
