No, ISPs do not routinely include adverts in private customer corrispondance. Anybody who finds their corrispondance tampered with should complain very bitterly to all and sundry.
Free mail services like Yahoo and Hotmail do. That is your consideration for using their services FOC.

This is absolutely unbelievable! I don't mind people piggy backing adverts on me if I'm taking advantage of their free services, but if I want to send someone a personal email from work, using my ntlworld address, why should I have to help ntl advertise a service I am paying them £25 a month for?
The sheer depths of ineptitude, shortsightedness and incompetence of some managers at ntl is breathtaking. I can just picture them all sitting round in the marketing department meeting where this sad scheme was dreamed up, slapping each other on the back and sniggering.
You can only push me so far, people...

Looks like they are running late with the implementation of this one.
Or maybe it's just barely possible that they've decided not to do it?

So how is this going to effect the ntl mail storage servers?
Unless people are mailing themselves then this isn't going to effect them at all..
so.. no fibbing involved at all really.

Well I used to get this with TheFreeinternet when I was with them.It may be more common than you think.
Also doesn't certain software do it?I remember that AVG did this as well on every email that I used to send out.
Incog.

Every email (ntl to ntl) will take up more space so all this stuff about not enough space on the servers is BS as well.
|
There are a 1.1 million ntl internet customers and probably double that number of email addresses.
How many of the emails sent go to ntlworld addresses do you think?

If I sent something from webmail it would most likely to be to my wife at home ... who also has an ntlworld addy.

Your internet bill is not itemised, but that doesn't mean any service within it you choose to name is 'free'.
What you are paying for is what ntl advertised you would get by signing up for the service. And their adverts say you get a number of emails, an amount of webspace, and internet connectivity at a certain speed.
If ntl later claim that you are only paying for the connectivity and the other things are free, to be meddled with at their leisure, they have committed an offence under the Sale of Goods Act, which specifies products must be sold as advertised.
So itemised bill or not, you're paying for your email. (Some ntl managers have apparently been saying privately to their staff that email is a 'free add-on'. But they are wrong.)

With AVG you can change the message or turn it off entirely.
I agree with towny, the e-mail is not a freebie but part of the internet package I am paying for and I don't think it is right for them to tag advertising on the end.

There was a long thread about this over at .com
Basically I accused one of the Community Liaison Team of lying when he said that the ntl email service was free. Anyway, to cut a long story short, he was told not to post to the thread anymore and email is one of the paid for services.
