Phone NTL FREE.

Look free phone numbers,but I think NTL have got this the wrong way round. Their letting the ppl who could pay for their service, have it for FREE.

They do that because all their competitors for that business will also be offering freephone tech support, etc.

Just as their competitors all charge for the calls to support on residential services

BT telco/vision (0800 800 150), Vonage (0800 008 6000), TalkTalk (0800 049 5050), Bulldog ( 0800 404 8151), Be (0808 234 8566) and even Sky (0800 587 5707) if you look hard enough. There's mobile companies too but I won't list them as Virgin currently only charge 10p per call to their CS.

Just a few examples of how it should be done!

I have to do it the hard way - I keep a monthly log of the chargeable calls I usually have to make to NTL than ask for a bill credit to reflect that asmount. The fact they jusrify it by saying 'Sky charge national rates' seems to be desperate measures, especially as the revenue earning potential of these numbers is shortly to disappear with OFTEL hoping they all move on to the new 05 code.

I was talking about their justification of Sky using it. The number I provided is for Sky

As an update, and possibly to close the thread - you can now call NTL for free officially,

150 - Customer Services
151 - Faults

This is due to be rolled out in all franchise areas from early Octoiber, however is is already 'live' in Glasgow. The 0845 route only lasted 5 months, so it shows what pester power can do!

Virgin don't even charge it, they say they do, but everytime i've rung form my mobile to them, it's been free

o2 however... That was a different story!

Not that I'm aware - indeed the website and even the CF 'Contact' details only gave the 0845 numbers. These short codes (which mirrored the BT equivalents) were removed from many franchise areas, and I can confirm that Glasgow and Belfast had these codes barred right up until last week.

The new number will also alow TW customers to call their cust services and faults. Another new thing to bring the 2 companies in line with each other.
