Re: what do you think are hte next speeds
And my prediction is... (for what it's worth) between 50mb and 100mb by the end of 2007 start of 2008.

hmm interesting, if 100mb came true with NTL that would be super cool.

Re: what do you think are hte next speeds
I predict a swift turn around from bt and a total network upgrade to fibre optics and no more long lengths of copper wire and then everyone will be able to get high speed internet at lost cost.Till that day broadband for the majority will be strangled

Re: what do you think are hte next speeds
I hope that in the future upload speed is balanced to a 50% at least to the total download speed rather than the silly ratio of 10mb down to only 512k up we have today.
Again like Zingle said this will require a shakeup of a sort to revolutionise the way people get their internet.

Re: what do you think are hte next speeds
My modem has been lighting up like a christmas tree on speed for the last quarter of an hour. Done several speed tests using this sites test and got results varying from 1 Mbps to 29 Mbps. So the question asked in the thread title is rather appropriate at the moment. Last speed test result is (and not from cache)
Thu, 03 Aug 2006 22:57:05 GMT
1st 512K took 157 ms = 3261.1 KB/sec, approx 26871 Kbps, 26.24 Mbps
2nd 512K took 156 ms = 3282.1 KB/sec, approx 27045 Kbps, 26.41 Mbps
3rd 512K took 140 ms = 3657.1 KB/sec, approx 30135 Kbps, 29.43 Mbps
4th 512K took 422 ms = 1213.3 KB/sec, approx 9998 Kbps, 9.76 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 23512 Kbps, 22.96 Mbps
These results appear to be rather fast - this page was probably in the browser cache.

i take it you have an ntl250 ?, several people were getting that 29 Mbps download speed when the last update took place and presumably before the restrictions kicked in ( we never did have anyone report their upload speed when they get that 29 Mbps down though), but it would indicate that currently the ntl250 and the network can work upto that speed, but that doesnt mean NTL will give us 20mbit down package to buy.
i predict that NTL will make everyone 10mbit, perhaps even upto 16mbit, and raise the upload to something like 720kbit next time, its not like they have ever lead the pack and only seem to follow, if they do anything at all.
i agree that the current 20 to 1 10mbit/512kbit package is just no incentive to upgrade at the moment, perhaps if and when they offer 1megabit up or better.

Your results seem to be very fast.. would you like a coffee while we

Re: what do you think are hte next speeds
Not sure who will make the next move, BT can goto 24mbit max which is realisticly 16meg max. Ntl could push higher, I would expect ntl's next move will be upto 30meg broadband after that they may need new technology.
