because they have admitted in that statement that the current modem is fine yet they are encouraging you to give them money to buy something that they know has an appalling track record for the reasons they are advertising it (wireless). And to make it worse, they are tieing you into a 12 month contract. Why? The speed upgrade has already been given. So paying for a shub which they want you to have screws you over for 12 months because you can guarantee that once you have got it they'll go round and round in circles with you on the phone well you ring them up and tell them it doesnt work.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

It may be fine for 100Mbit based on the statement, but remember there is a further upgrade to 120Mbit coming for anyone on 100Mbit

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

So why is it that having "upgraded" from 30MBit to 60MBit my SHub has become even more unreliable? Before the change it was reasonable, now every wireless device either drops the connection or has very low speeds. My main PC is hard wired, everything else is wireless. PC is fine, nothing else can be relied upon.

I'd advise you monitor your wireless connection from a laptop. If you're in a busy wireless environment crowded by wireless networks from your neighbours the super hub signal will sometimes struggle to get through the air waves. I'd advise you reduce the 802.11 mode to 145 Mbps and change the wireless channel to a less congested one after running a program like inSIDDer.

Thank you for the suggestions.
1. I have been using a netbook with both the onboard wireless and the Virgin usb dongle. Still an unreliable connection.

2. Shub is set to 145 Mbps, and has been since day 1. 300 Mbps is a known issue.

3.I have used inSSIDer to monitor my wireless "overlap" from my neighbours.

You seem to have missed the point of my post. My problem is that since the "upgrade" from 30 to 60, the wireless connection problems have become worse.

---------- Post added at 16:52 ---------- Previous post was at 16:49 ----------

Shub is not set to automatically select the wireless channel. I have tried using all of them in turn and it still is not as it was. (Not brilliant from the outset).

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

I think some US capacity work has been done or a node split as the last 5 days or so I have a significant improvement to my tbb graphs, even the weekend looked ok.

It is possible tho my port just has a massive imbalance and the other US channel is mega congested :p

If it doesn't perform as it is suposed to, then it isn't fit for purpose, and the contract can't be legally binding. So it isn't screwing you over.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

of course it is, you know there is no way they are going to admit there is anything wrong with the shub. They'll waste hours on the phone getting you to change all the settings and when it still doesnt work, blame it on your laptop/pc or the environmental conditions in your house.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

I have my SHUB in the same room as my laptop most times. Yet the wireless side of the SHUB is clearly incapable of doing 100Mbit at all. Virgin must know that the majority of people run wireless. The max I can get on wireless is about 77Mbit which is nowhere near the 105Mbit I can get hard wired.

I don't really fancy setting my other router up and putting the SHUB in wireless mode as the SHUB on it's own produces enough freaking disco lights.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

In modem mode the superhubs disco lightshow is reduced to tolerable levels.

If they provide you with equipment to be used in a household environment, that doesn't work in a household environment, then it is unfit for purpose. It appears that most people have no problems at all, but some do. Only last week someone on this forum said that VM had sent them a wifi router to use with their shub in modem mode, because they were having problems with wifi. So it seems like they are accepting that some people are having problems, and are trying to rectify it. If they don't rectify it then all you would have to do (as with many companies), is start quoting SOGA, and mentioning trading standards.

First I've heard, what type of WiFi router?
