Virgin Media Forum "closed for maintenance"
Oh dear. There's a gaffe if ever there was one. Here's some speculation:
1 They're purging criticism
2 They'll "accidentally" lose the database & start again or roll back to a convenient date
3 There's too much reference to their Quality Director's statement that their processes were "fundamentally broken"
4 The site actually needs "maintenance" - eh?
If it's genuine maintenance, through the timing, VM have laid themselves open to potentially damaging speculation!

Re: Virgin Media Forum "closed for maintenance"
I've not seen any other 'damaging speculation' apart from what you've just written
Do you have similiar thoughts when Cableforum goes offline?
Also it looks like it's back up (with all posts intact)

Very observant. Someone had to be first. It would have been more helpful if you could have knocked my speculation (1 to 3) down with some facts about their suspiciously timed closure for "maintenance".
Doesn't my speculation tell you something about VM's current standing and image with its customers? The fact that VM is open to the sort of speculation I offer is something for which VM should be ashamed.
EDIT
The Virgin Media forum is back up. So 25% of my speculation was correct! Just goes to show the reputational state VM has reached that there is cause for cynicism.

Of course it could be argued that you are 75% wrong and you were just being too cynical Sephiroth .

Whoda thunk a technology system needing maintenance?

Indeed, I have never seen any other forum require it

Agreed. But it's nearly the 80:20 rule. I was at least 75% justified in my cynicism for being only 25% right.

You missed one:
5 Something could have fallen over (like the backend database server), causing the forum software to display the maintenance message because it couldn't access the database.. IIRC, this forum does when the database falls over..

Hold on, hold on - by that logic the following is also valid.
1) you are a two-headed alien baby-eater
2) you molest baby aardvarks
3) your forum name is Sephiroth
4) everything you post is wrong
I am at least 25% right, which does not validate the other 75% of the propositions.....

Re: Virgin Media Forum "closed for maintenance"
Am I the only one who actually think VM is fine. I have TV, no problems, broadband, no problems, telephone, no problems even got 4 mobiles in the house all on virgin network. Absolutely no problems whatever.

Nope - me too, I have the "full service" (actually not - I don't have virgin mobile) and have had virtually no problems at all in more than 10 years as a customer - I think during that time I have only had 4 or 5 times when service was down, and then at the most for a few hours. Engineers ahev arrived when they should and have completed the work in good order and quickly (does my making them tea and coffee and with biscuits cause this?). When I have called a support line (very rarely) I have been treated efficiently and courteously and where merited have been offered a credit back.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Virginmedia
(and no, I don't work for them or ant part of any other part of the Virgin group - I am a real ordinary customer)
