Virgin Mobile to sponsor ninth series of Big Brother

Quote:
Virgin Mobile has announced that it will sponsor the ninth series of Big Brother, which airs in the summer.

Last year, Virgin Mobile sponsored Big Brother 8 and earlier this year it sponsored Big Brother spin-off programme Big Brother Celebrity Hijack.

Virgin Media’s managing director of marketing and brand James Kydd said: ‘Big Brother is a ratings powerhouse, it is a perfect fit with the Virgin Mobile brand, and the audience it delivers includes many of our customers and staff.

‘When it’s not being broadcast on Channel 4, we look forward to keeping fans up to date via our mobile, TV and web portal platforms.’

New sponsorship idents are being created for the show primarily featuring Virgin Mobile, but also showcasing other Virgin Media services.

Channel 4’s head of sponsorship David Charlesworth added: ‘We’re delighted to have Virgin back on board for BB9. Virgin Media are perfectly suited as they offer multi-platform opportunities that help satisfy consumers' insatiable appetite for all things Big Brother.’

Virgin Mobile snapped up the sponsorship rights for the programme after Carphone Warehouse ended its association with the show following allegations of racist bullying.

Re: Virgin Mobile to sponsor ninth series of Big Brother

I cant see why any company would want to be associated with this tripe.

I can't see the appeal in it, but lot's of people do. And it gets their logo onto people's screen - mostly when people are leaving the room to avoid adverts.

Re: Virgin Mobile to sponsor ninth series of Big Brother

Shame, I was hoping nobody would sponsor it after the troubles of the last couple of years and that we might finally be rid of this carp!

That was exactly my hope mate, even [Lord] David Puttnam, deputy chairman of channel four, when interviewed shortly after the race row on "celebrity" big brother, said he was embarrassed to be associated with such down market television, and if it could be replaced with something else that generated equal income he would cancel it, obviously that hasn't happened. To me this awful drivel just glorifies this incessant desire for celebrity in our society, the no marks who will mindlessly run in to this meat-grinder when it starts will claim, "I'm only doing it for the experience, I mean if I get famous through this it will be a bonus", then they will whine "I didn't know what I was letting myself in for". Then once they are out they will be pictured falling drunk out of some nightclub, and no doubt one or two of the girls will "accidentally" expose their boobs so as to get their picture in the Sun, Star or Mirror, phew.. what an ambition.

As you can probably tell Ive seen my fair share of this drivel, living in a house with my wife and two teenage daughters I dread it when this starts as all three of them seem to love it...god only knows why, all I can add is thank god for my fishing rod.

Low budget, throw away garbage TV is all it is.

Since the death penalty is abolished Terrorists should get Life with enforced 24/7 repeats of BB piped to their cells.

They would wish themselves dead after an hour.

I know I would.

They didn't axe it. All they did was what they announced. Channel 4 said last year (when they announced BB's celeb hijack) that Celebrity Big Brother would take a year off (which it did, it is back next year) and that the main BB show would carry on as normal.
