I think that you will find money for marketing is totally seperate from money for upgrading and improving the network and other things. Also the extra interest in the company from the sponsorship will help improve the profits so there will be more to put back into the company.

Calm down mate, no need to be so SHOUTY.

Look at it this way: Virgin probably aren't spending more than a few million sponsoring BB. For this, they get continued exposure to up to about 3 million people. A fair few of them will probably be tempted to either move to Virgin, or if they are already Virgin customers, to order more services. More customers buying more services = more profit.

The network needs 10's, of not 100's of millions of pounds of upgrade, so the few million spent on BB would make little or no difference if spent on the network. If that money is spent on Advertising, it could generate many times it's own value in profits. Hopefully, some of which will be spent on upgrades.

That is not an opinion. While I cannot claim it is fact, it *is* the basis on which Advertising works.

I know what your saying Stuart about advertising, but of the three million who will watch BB I would imagine the vast majority are kids living at home with their parents. It just seems to me not the sort of brand VM would want associated with their name, as BB is now well past its sell by date.

http://about.virginmobile.com/aboutu...8/2008-05-22o/

In 2007, the show reached more than 80 pc of 18-34 year olds (a total of 11.5 million 16-34s) and in general averaged around 4 million viewers per show. Out of the top 20 highest rating shows over the summer last year for 16-34’s, nine of these shows were Big Brother episodes.

“Big Brother is still immensely popular and resonates with the youth and popular culture in general today. We’re looking forward to meeting the housemates and seeing what Big Brother has in store for them soon,” said James Kydd.

David Charlesworth, head of sponsorship at Channel 4, added, “We’re delighted to have Virgin back on board for BB9. Virgin Media are perfectly suited as they offer multi-platform opportunities that help satisfy consumers' insatiable appetite for all things Big Brother."

Re: Virgin Mobile to sponsor ninth series of Big Brother

Does anyone else find it funny that the company sponsoring Big Brother is one looking at introducing Phorm `spyware’ technology to their network. A match made in spying heaven.

Re: Virgin Mobile to sponsor ninth series of Big Brother

VM as a company must have felt that last years sponsorhip was a success otherwise they wouldn't waste their time doing it again this year. Big brother brings in the viewers at the end of the day and that is good exposure for the company. They must have made some good money off the back of Big brother because otherwise what would be the point in paying to sponsor them if there is no return? Carphone warehouse had done it for years previously as did the likes of o2.
