If they didn't tell you at the time then you are NOT tied in. Simply state that it was never mentioned you would be accepting a new contract and as such you are under no obligation to stay.
VM will do anything to try and keep a customer, even to the extent of lieing that your under a contract or the price rise isn't a reason to leave. You have to stick to your guns and be persistent if you intend to cancel.

Do as Ben has suggested, imo they are wrong.
If complaining does not sort the issue there is an independent service that will take up your problem with no cost to yourself.
All you should have to do is inform them in writing that due to the increase in prices on your particular service you wish to give 30 days notice as per terms and conditions, send it recorded delivery, make sure you date the letter and say you are giving 30 days notice from that date.
They should then act on that.
Good luck.

Re: Breaking Contract
Nope. If you cancel under the price rise clause it would be a full cancel.
You might be able to renegotiate services but you would then be tied into a new 12 month contract

So if you were sent an email about being able to cnacel because of the price rises, then that one who's saying that cnacelling because of that reason is not good enough didn't read their email?

Re: Breaking Contract
so if i am on the free m tv + m phone and the l broadband services + v+ tv i think my only price increase will be the change in call costs, is this enough for me to cancel also?
or would i have upgrade my tv pack, now before the increase takes place,to the xl which has the £2.50 increase in order to cancel?
thanks for any help,
treeman

Re: Breaking Contract
If you upgrade then you have accepted the price it's at. you can't have it both ways

Re: Breaking Contract
Hopefully VM would be sensible enough to see that getting £20 or so quid a month is beter than nothing

Ive just checked the Terms & Conditions and it says you can only cancel the affected service, so I should be able to drop tv as only that has gone up in price

If you had them all as a package, won't it work out that you'll pay more?

You might be able to use the phone charges increase to cancel just the phone, but I'm not 100% sure.
You couldn't increase to XL tv and then cancel as you would be made aware of the post 1st June change in price when you added it, therefore the price change clause wouldn't apply

But the main price change is the all services bundles (ie. 2 for £20 or 3 for £30 etc). So to cancel under the clause you would have to remove all services.
You couldn't use the TV XL increase to cancel the whole TV service, as 'cancelling the affected service' would just downgrade you to TV L
