VM - new contract after house move?

Unhappy VM - new contract after house move?

I moved house after being 11 months with VM.

They have closed my old a/c # and assigned me a new a/c#.

Now they are saying that I need to stay with them for 12 months as I've opened a "new" a/c with them!

I was never been informed in anyway that moving house means a new contract. That means, if I move house again, then basically I'll be tied in a perpetual contract with them!

Can I quit now - as I've already completed over 12 months since my original contract began.

Its 12 months whenever there is a housemove unfortunatly. You should have been told though when you arranged for the move.

From the Terms

  1. If you move to another address within our service area, you may ask us to provide the services to your new address. You must give us at least one month's written notice to do this, but we cannot guarantee to provide you with the services at your new address.
  2. If you move to another address during any minimum period paragraph J2 will apply, unless you continue to receive our services at your new address (in which case paragraph K3 will apply).
  3. If we agree to provide the services to your new address, you will have to pay a service transfer charge (to be paid to Virgin Media Payments). Details of our service transfer charge are set out in our price guides.We will also send you a new contract for the services at your new address and you will have to keep the services for the minimum period. The service start date will be the date that we install the services at your new address. You may not be able to keep your phone number if you move house.

But they haven't send me any new contract to sign for! I only received my normal service charge bills.

You mean they will increase price from June even for existing customers? How do I know what price I shall be paying??

You will be sent a letter. Obivously if you do use the June 1st price increase to break contract you will have to close the account and find alternative providers

Since you all seem to have some knowledge of house moving and contracts can I throw in a new case. My sister is moving house next week and is having a lot of bother with Virgin. Not only is she getting a different story each time she rings but has also found the replies to be rather arrogant bordering on abusive. Basically, she has been with them for 12 years but last year she had a second box installed not realising she would now be on a new contract. She now wants to move house to a non cabled area where all they can provide down the BT line is her broadband although last week she was told by another operative that they could provide full TV that way. Either way they will not let her out of her contract so they have lost a customer forever plus her bad references for anyone else wanting to sign up. One other choice she was given was to convince the people buying her property to take on the contract. On todays call she was told that was most definitely not possible. I know in the past NTL let a friend out of her contract when she moved to a non cabled area. Is there anything she can do to get out of this. Any help would be much appreciated

What was the second box she had installed? If it was a standard box it isn't usually a new contract. If it was a V+ or a new recontracting bundle discount was given as part of the install then it would be.

The only way to avoid EDFs if under contract when moving to a non-cable area is to take out Beyond Cable broadband with Virgin

It was just a standard box although on one call they informed her that their records showed she had taken the VIP package but today they say there is no record of that which is quite obvious as she doesnt have a V+ box. All she did was get a second box for the dining room. They are now claiming there were some enhancements, unspecified, to her phone package. Even when they offered her broadband down the BT line which she was happy to accept, they said she still owed them £210
