Virgins paper and billboard ads

Classic.... there is the ad board just around the corner from my house and the ad being displayed at the moment is something along the lines of,

Broadband faster than a speeding bullet... and guess who is advertising?

What a joke.... my 20mb broadband only yeilds about 3 sometimes 4mb at night which is when I need it most. Youtube is just like watching telly they say, I say I cant even use a Citrix connection... how will youtube ever work???

Oh well, enough moaning now, we all know Virgin is one of the, if not the worst ISP in the UK and quite possibly the EU as well. Ranks up there with a lot of the ISP's in 3rd world countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe, etc.

The only words I can use to describe my feelings towards Virgin is SHEER HATRED!

Rt

Not to detract from your problems, or to bring statistics to the table.

But using the follwing link VM havent done too bad

http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php

with only 3 of the major providers above them and the majority below

Re: Virgins paper and billboard ads

Perhaps only 3 major providers, but still only coming in 26th, as bonglet said, tesco is ahead of them!

Of the people in my office (IT Support team) 4 of us have Virgin with only 1 being satisfied! The rest of us all think they are the worst ISP not only from a speed but a cost and support point of view.

Well if thats the case why are you still with them? They can't be that bad can they. You can't even use the excuse that your in contract becuase they will waive it for poor service as long as you've given then a resonalble chance to sort the problem.

Re: Virgins paper and billboard ads

Have you checked that it is not you PC causing the problem. I have just manually changed the settings on my computer, family (2x sister and Mother) and a friend who were, between us getting between 6 - 12meg.

Now that are all hitting 18meg + when I spoke to Virgin Media about this they quoted that around 80% of speed issues are due to the config on Windows XP and Vista.

I found out what all I needed on www.virginmedia.com/help

this is the section you will more than likely need.

Re: Virgins paper and billboard ads

Trust me I have tried. I have called up twice and both time just been offered discounted service. I was told if I still want to cancel I can pay 160 pounds per service I want to cancel!

Yup, have tried the steps on the site, have used multiple notebooks. Basically they have admitted to me there is an ongoing fault in my area.... nearly 5 months later the ongoing fault is still not fixed..... their tech support keep telling me its a problem with their server but refuse to provide more details!

Out of interest would this not have something to do with Tesco only have 74
comments whilst VM (cable) has 1226 comments?

Re: Virgins paper and billboard ads

I'll start to belive that Virgin are rubbish when Customers stop saying I'm more than happy with the service but I can get it from X at X price and I'd be daft to stay and start giving poor service as reasons they want to leave. (obviously I do get some people saying that but I'd say it was 1 or 2 in every 30 calls) The biggest cause of disconnections that are fault related are because of the TV not BBI
Virgins biggest problem is price when compared to the free privoiders.

Re: Virgins paper and billboard ads

I suppose you're more likely to post to this forum if you have a problem than if you have good service so I guess the amount of negative BB comments on here, reflect the low percentage of people that VM are still to resegment. Rather than the overall average service levels being bad.

Employees were informed by the Networks MD last week, after a question related to service issues, that 93% of customers are peaking at their maximum download rate even at busy periods, according to metrics as monitored by the network equipment. I guess we just don't hear much from the 93% on Cable Forum.

I'm not sure if I count as one of the 93% or not. My so-called 4Mb/s service has never recorded much more than 3Mb/s on any speed test I've ever tried. I also monitor it with NetMeter, and only BBC iPlayer ever managed to get it near to 4Mb/s. Large downloads like .iso images just sit at 3Mb/s.

£25/m for a 3Mb/s service is expensive, but 3Mb/s is quite enough for my needs. I only stick with it because I don't have a BT line any more, and can't be bothered with the hassle and cost of getting one re-installed. I'm ever hopeful than VM might fix it one day, but without any real expectation that they will...

Seems to be largely in line with the recent Which! survey, showed only 27% of users are satisfied with the service (sorry, no link).

Re: Virgins paper and billboard ads

Well, from my experience NTL/VM are the best that I have been with, speeds as paid for, the rare fault fixed quickly, so it's not all one sided. When I was dissatisfied with previous ISPs I ditched them, seems odd that so many seem to stay with NTL/VM when the service is so bad.

Akia, since you work for VM, you know your statement is not fact, unless there has been a recent policy change. I stayed with VM after the Sky1 fiasco, believeing the hype that things were going to get better, with new exciting developments on the horizon.

If only i had known then what i know now, i would have dropped them like a hot potato. Terrible internet services, V Box always going wonky, and where you say cancellation can take place if you are not satisifed, i was also told i would have to pay for the remainder of the term on the cintract!!!! Is this a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing?

I am etremely happy to say that from March 7th i will be rid of the "annoyance called virgin media" when i have all of my services disconnected.
