Re: VM: One year on....

With the share price almost half what it was 12 months ago I would have thought that the management would have preferred not mention the costly re-branding exercise.

Umm as far as I remember Sky's basic channels were got rid of before the company joined and took on the VM name, and "Missing the Simpsons", get a life, there's more interesting stuff on telly than watching those yellow people 4 times every night, watch them on Channel 4 instead or find another source.
I`m sure me & the missus aint really watched toooo much TV this last 15 years.
Her and the 5 kids watch enough now though

It's called bored at work
You should`nt have to explain yourself to anyone zeph.
I spend loads of time on the pc`s now-a-days and my own workday dont involve sitting at one for a living either.
If anyone thinks someones 1000`S of posts on some forum means they should get a life then they should come be fill my shoes for a week ......a day even

Work, kids, cooking, cleaning, nappies, shopping, washin g,local pc fixer upper(moi?).......wife.....and 1000`s of posts on numerous interweb boards it seems.
Most of it though is just learning what i dont know and sharing what i do,which is`nt much mind you.
Of course....i`m also Santa, the Tooth Fairy and the bloody Easter Bunny....all rolled into one.

I`d make someone a good wife in fact

VM though??........well,i`m nearly 2 years into the whole pc thing and having been with NTL/VM/?? since day one we probably had more problems with overall service/s during our first months with NTL than we have in the last year with VM(i know i know...it`s the same mob)
We`ve had the odd mishap these last 12 months but the whole speed thing is neither here nor there in reality.
I never set out wanting any 20Mb....or even the 10Mb it previously was but,it just kinda happened.
For most of the time since the so-called upgrade last June our 20Mb speeds were deplorable and some of the actual service from Virgin was often even worse.

We dont pay for no 20Mb though(or the now free 1Mb stb) and your lucky if we`ve been paying the cost of our original 4Mb modem connection as far as the actual BB goes.
Not because of any "deal chasing" though but purely down to inconvenience caused,as well as ££££ lost because of it all.
Plus i know for a fact that none of the other main players are any better round these parts, not as far as the BB goes.
From frying pan to fire is not really on the agenda just now.

We`re actually very happy with our overall service just now.Even the 20Mb has been top notch since the end of November-ish.
If truth be told though the 1Mb STB would be perfectly adequate

There is more to life than silly BB speeds after all

Re: VM: One year on....

Got to admit the I'm quite happy with the service and I do feel that the amalgamation of the smaller companies into one entity has given VM a we bit more clout within the entertainment industry.

However (I feel) that VM should now be concentrating on expanding the cable network and gaining a foothold into new areas, as (at the moment) all that potential customers can see is a service that (metaphorically speaking) is behind a sheet of glass. I.e. on display but not attainable.

Until then, the only (triple based) services available to customers are, satelite (SKY) and landline based (BT owned). These still have an advantage over VM by virtue of the fact that they are readily available.

VM cannot hope to realise it's full potential as a supplier, until it has put itself in the position where customers (by their own choice) can have access the service as a vaible alternative to the others.

That's it and Si thee

Re: VM: One year on....

Well, they haven't destroyed the brand yet, but give them time, it took a couple of years for CableTel to drag the NTL brand through the mud.

On the plus side, the speed of my Virgin.net ADSL service has improved in the evenings. Still way below line capability, but better than the sub-dial-up speeds I was getting six months ago.
