Re: VM: One year on....
Before VM
Normal Phone, talk unlimited local.
XL TV
2mb BB
£39.49 pm
The Simpsons
After VM
Phone: L
XL TV
V+ (One off payment of £45)
4mb BB
£35.00 per month.
No Simpsons
So, on paper I am getting a better deal. What about the service?
Excellent. All things considered my improved performance and reduced monthly bill off sets missing the Simpsons.

Re: VM: One year on....
The jury is still out for me.Though I've yet to have to pay for contacting CS, the loss of any path via email or other web based contact is a downer, and I still think the premium rate contact a bad move. I know it's mostly refundable, I still don't like it.
I had good service speedwise under ntl, I've got it again now under Virgin, but the getting it back bit was timewasting and frustrating.I hope things at least stay the same, hopefully improve, but I shan't hold my breath.

Umm as far as I remember Sky's basic channels were got rid of before the company joined and took on the VM name, and "Missing the Simpsons", get a life, there's more interesting stuff on telly than watching those yellow people 4 times every night, watch them on Channel 4 instead or find another source.

As someone who has made over 8000 posts on this board you must be an authority on not just "getting" a life but living it too.

Re: VM: One year on....
From a broadband only viewpoint they failed rather miserably from when vm took over till december my broadband was a snails pace of what it should have been was more of a downgrade from 10mb than a upgrade.
Couple that with the increase in price and the charge to support and they have failed badly in my eyes i just hope they pull there finger out this year and give us free support back and a lowering in bb price to make it more attractive to the user and put it back as a no1 bb provider.

Re: VM: One year on....
Well, I think that this year is the first of many stepping stones for rebuilding the company.
This coming year (2008-2009) will be the main event when it comes to that, though. With the complete focus being on Broadband, then that gives Virgin a lot of work to do. The Phone needs no more work, just needs customers, and the TV needs channels, which Im sure will come when the upgrade comes (DOCSIS 3.0 and DVB-C2).
Also, on the TV side, come Winter 2009, the TV Rights for the Premier League will be up for bidding once again, and all the talk will be about them. WWE Wrestling rights come available next year. Once again, something that could make them a lot of money, but its something they need to invest into, thus bumping the price of their channels, and making more money for supplying channels to Sky etc.
Again, lets not forget, in the coming months, we have the court case against Sky resurfacing, because of the Sky Basics. This could bring some good news for VM with Neil Berkett stating he believes that the Legislation in the UK needs to be changed to allow more competition, instead of people dominating. That Legislation was changed in 2002, when the OFT (Office of Fair Trading) ruled that SKy was dominant, but didnt abuse that dominance. That led to Virgin Media (ntl: and telewest back then?) getting stuff at a fixed price off Sky, like Sky Sports and Sky Movies. The same thing could be done, to include Sky HD football, and other goodies like Interactive. (Hey, probably wishful thinking, but you never know.)
Finally, the exciting news that Virgin Media will get the BBC iPlayer on Cable in the next couple of months is massive news, and definetly something to show off to your mates.
If Virgin can turn things around in the next 18-24 months, then that leaves a lot of money to invest in stuff thats going to make them MORE money. You reap the benefits, but you need to heavily invest in the good things (not stupid ads with Kill Bill!) before that happens.
Broadband needs some work, but DOCSIS 3.0 and the eventual 50Mb roll out should provide for an interesting outlook on what is going to happen competition-wise. Also, could we all be seeing ANOTHER upgrade in the pipeline? (2Mb to 4Mb, maybe?)
